Hi-

that´s a interesting thread :o ...
For a really old man is :green: ....vinyl and reel to reel the best! The feeling is another as cd! Analog sound is warm!
The best sound is for me from my Teac (A-3300 SX-with 2track and 38-sec/ speed) Reel to reel and than with recordings from a good vinyl-player!

cheers Olaf 8)
(sorry for my bad english)

I haven't seen a reel-to-reel tape machine since ... well, about 1973!

:o It´s my hobby...I have "35" Open-Reel to Reel recorder :green:
from all times...the oldest is from 1952 and the newest is from 1983!

There is one still in production:the legendary T20 by Tandberg.

Tandberg have not a new production for open reel´s!! The world latest producer is only "Otari" :D : but the price is very high  over 5000 €

On the subject of collectability, I don't think we should form a judgement too quickly.

As far as vinyl is concerned, my collection includes stuff such as The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced? all in mono(!), and then Hendrix's original Electric Ladyland in the controversial "nudes" cover, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, complete with the famous little stickers, and Hawkwind's Warrior on the Edge of Time. The cover of the Hawkwind album opens out in two folds to show a huge chasm on the one side, but if you turn it over you're holding a virtually full-sized shield. I don't know about the mono stuff, but it's my guess that some of the other old vinyl may now be collectable. However, as I've said before, most of the above albums have been played too much, and probably damaged by poor turntables and cheap/damaged styluses.

Present-day new vinyl, such as TG's Souvenirs and other "special editions", should swiftly become collectable in what is now a much smaller vinyl market (smaller than in the 1960s/1970s, that is - and, of course, I accept that vinyl is gaining popularity again).

However, what will future collectors make of CD special editions that are coming on to the market right now? For example, in 30 years' time, how will people see Therion's Lemuria/Sirius B deluxe edition, or the fabulous artwork done for After Forever's Decipher?

Oh yes some cds(ltd or special editions) will go up in value. But most cds are too common to have any collector value. And as i said almost anything that comes out on vynil the last 10+ years is ltd edition(few copies). If its a release from a collectable name like Tool Pearl Jam Radiohead etc price soon goes up.As for older stuff:Price for mint vynil will go up/stay high.price for albums that "have been played too much, and probably damaged by poor turntables and cheap/damaged styluses" won t.In other words:buy excellent or mint condition LPs.

I dont care if a CD or a vynil is gaining value... If you buy such items for that... you'rre not a real music lover IMO :-?

This is where I'm coming from too. After all, if you want the best quality reproduction of sound, what you really need is TG in your living room, or perhaps Therion plus the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra in a slightly larger venue!

And then, there's emotion. Imagine that you're walking down a country lane, wearing a t-shirt and jeans, carrying just the door keys to your home - but in your head you're listening to a favourite album. And then, almost before you realise, there are tears streaming down your face. That's happened to me.

well, nobody has posted in 5 years here.......anyway.

a friend of mine just completed a kickass sound system with a great turn table. after listening to many vynils (pink floyd, grand funk railroad, sabbath, shocking blue) at his home i just got curious about HTMAP.

i used the "search" thingie from the forum and led to this post. is there a discussion on the forum about trade/sell of gathering material?

anyone selling HTMAP vynil?

good luck with searching, it is definitely an item you should listen to on 12" if you're a record fan!

I've got two copies of Home (clear and white I believe they are) and Souvenirs, and I've got The West Pole coming as soon as the band ships that.

I wish I could find the older ones. They are amazing records.
