Funny you mention Porcupine Tree; I have always wondered how a The Gathering album would sound like, production-wise, if Steven Wilson would put his hands into it...

Ah, the dream of imagining two of my current top bands meddling with each other's business...

The Gathering will not release albums anymore???? I hope that's just stupid gossip

We know Nienke, we played several times with Autumn. Very nice people.

About that gossip. It came from a bad translated interview. Yes, we will release another album, but this will take some time.

We are currently looking for a good spot to record our A Noise Severe DVD. Yes, South America would be nice, we will see.

About Porcupine Tree. We, the band, saw them live 2 years ago. Very good musicians, but it didn't hit me. Too much prog rock, I am afraid.

Have you also tried with the albums? If I can recommand stg, give "Stupid Dream" a try, not that prog, I guess you'd like it. And the first some albums (Signify, Up The Downstairs and The Sky moves Sideways, I hope I'm not wrong) is not progrock but very good psychedelic mood-music...

(And the real progrock albums are In Absentia and Deadwing...also both worth to dig deep into 'em but I don't want to force my opinion on you of course  )

And how about Anathema hmmmm? 8)

Hans,

have you ever thought about touring as opening act for a more well-known band, like Radiohead or Opeth or someone else?

I think that could be a great occasion to promote TG music to a wider audience.

thank you

Hans,

What drum mics are you using nowadays for recording/live playing? What mics did you use when recording HTMAP?

Thanks.

Dear Hans...don't know if this has been asked before(this is a very long thread) but:

Have u ever thought of making a concept album?

all the previous records had some form of concept on them.(be that a main idea hovering through songs like HTMAP/Home, or an intricate pattern of multiple layers(sound wise) like Souvenirs, etc.

I know it's a heavy task to take on, and only great bands ever managed to pull it off..but the Gathering IS a great band. :D so i was wondering why it never happened...

I'm ecstatic at your work so far anyway..you've done a brilliant job at making inspirational music, and i'm sure your next album will be as great as the previous ones..much respect..

Hi Hans,

First I want to say that I enjoyed the concerts I saw last months: great job! See you in Drachten again. I'm sorry for all those people who talk during the concerts, in Sneek for example; lukily Groningen was very OK.

Ehm, I guess you know fabchannel.com as there are two The Gathering concerts online to view. I'm interested in why this is done, isn't it very expensive? But maybe I ask the wrong person  . At least it's very cool for the fans!

Forthcomming from discovering fabchannel, the question rose to me: isn't it relatively cheap for you to release a DVD with (parts of) those concerts? Or at least a livealbum? Does fabchannel archive all camera-tapes (or how they call it) so it can be remixed when nessesary?

Then, do you record all shows you give and re-listen pieces? Does The Gathering have an archive with live recordings?

Thanks, please keep making music and have a nice day.

About when and where will you record the show of the coming DVD?
Or isn't it settled yet?

It sure is, but it is damn difficult to be supp. act for, let's say, Radiohead.

It's a mix of a lot of mics, Shure, AKG, and some other ones. We used some BBC microphones (The BBC developed these strange, heavy weight mics) during the HTMAP sessions. They sound very good, and are quite rare. Wisseloord studios has some of these microphones.
