is anyone else confused about the lyrics to this song? "If Then Else" is one of my favorite albums, absolutely brilliant IMO, but this song has always been the one unsure part of the album.

The magical air evaporates
whenever we float down from
the big plateau
We are here,

To let you know,
our rear view mirror
is full of meaning

Our endless trip is now in session
The twelve wheel drive
is overfloating with great experience

You've heard,
our rear view mirror
is full of meaning
Heating up,
coming down with the biggest flue

Our moves have set the evening
and we feel right, winding down
hanging on to silence
While equipment is digesting
in the underbelly of our ride
We believe,

And let you know,
our rear view mirror
is full of meaning

Does anyone know what these lyrics mean? "Our rear view mirror is full of meaning" ?! :-?

The song's about the happenings in Ft. Collins (Colorado) in 1999:

"... we were treated like animals. Really. They booked the Colorado-show without permission of the band or the band's management. When we arrived at Century Media Los Angeles we saw it was scheduled, and we tried to cancel it. It's very simple, we are just people like you, people who need a bed and some food, and I can tell you that sometimes we didn't even get something to drink!!!!!! Not even water!!!! We couldn't make the distance to Ft. Collins. We called the bookingsoffice, but they didn't want to cancel it. So we tried to do something IMPOSSIBLE. To drive all the way from San Fransisco to Colorado. Just to please the fans... That's a mere 800 miles/1250 km in 24 hours!! We managed to arrive at 22:30 local time. And I can tell you that we were sick. Very sick and incredible tired. Sick of the booking-guy, sick of the organisation, but above all, the inhuman trip to Colorado. We already had to fight a lot of miles and a big 'jet-lag'. OK. We arrived. Didn't have anything to eat the whole day. Just driving. Raymond, our tourmanager and Theo, our technician walked into the venue. They were treated like shit! Nobody had the decency to talk with our crew, nobody was in charge, (!) we could come back at 00:00, that's what the bar-lady said. ..."

Hmm....that explains some of it, but I still don't understand why the rear view mirror is full of meaning. :surprised:

The way I see it it's like :

oh wow. I always thought the song was in reference to the school shooting in Colorado. That's what I thought the "rear view window is full of meaning" statement was saying.....it will never be forgotten by the band.

No, the Columbine incident happened April 20, 1999. If_Then_Else was released in July, 2000 if I'm not mistaken.

unlike NW's Kinslayer. that one was totally about it. so i thought colorado incident is about the same at first.
