O.K. now that I know Home this good, I can give a good ranking of TG-albums. Not the best 'till the less best, but just my favorite order:

1) How To Measure A Planet?
2) Mandylion
3) Souvenirs
4) Nighttime Birds
5) Home
6) If_Then_Else

1 (more than number 1!!) MANDYLION (THE Gathering album!)
2 Sleepy Buildings (something different but amazing!!! Just wonderful... Sorrowful but hopeful... Sweet and sad...)
3 if_then_else Just for Amity, one of my favourites
4 Always Very good! The Mirror Waters is one of the best songs, and generally it's a good album
4again Almost a Dance I don't why, I can't remember any riff, any music (except from the music in #1,#2 which is EXACTLY THE SAME), but I like it a lot
4again HTMAP Because it's a big cd with many famous songs

And then (in the same position) Superheat and Nighttime Birds (I like a lot the first song)... That's the albums I have..

1. If_then_else (I definitly won't understand why is this album so criticized...could somebody explain? )
2. Souvenirs (Best studio work I have ever heard...the band should really love record it)
3. Home
4. Mandylion
5. HTMAP (too many weaks songs which are barely more than a rythmic idea - Marooned which spoil its masterpieces)
6. Nighttime Birds (only ONE tonality!)

Indeed, I also love ITE, but I think the music is less exciting than the other albums. Although I think this one is very balanced en consistent. The only thing I don't like about this album is the way the instruments sound. The recording. And the front-cover sucks too. Who gave permission to use that as front-cover artwork :P  ?

Anyway, the songs are great!! No weak song on it IMO.

My current (and most often) ranking:

1. How To Measure A Planet? 10/10
2. Home 9/10
3. Souvenirs 9/10
4. Nighttime Birds 8/10
5. If_Then_Else 7,5/10
6. Mandylion 7,5/10

I still haven't heard BLD

1. Souvenirs (reigns supreme and nothing else by TG comes close...Yet! :D )

2. HTMAP?
3. Mandylion
4. if_then_else
5. Nighttime birds
6. Sleepy buildings
7. Home

Don't own the first two albums or Superheat.. And I didn't include BLD as it's an EP...

WOW!! Today, I bought the Black Light District EP and it's so great!!

The music on this cd contains some very good ideas from which I hope the band will develop in future work. The title track is beautiful, so rocks 'Debris' like mad and Broken Glass is a nice 'early' version.

On the multi-media 'rockumentary' I heard early takes from 'In Between.' Funny!

Well, I haven't heard Home yet but with this missing album my list from the Anneke era perhaps would be:

How to Measure a Planet = 10

Souvenirs = 9.99

Nighttime Birds = 9.98

Mandylion = 9.97

Sleepy Buildings = 9.96

If Then Else = 9.8

putting aside singles and live albums.

what the f*ck! :green: every album is so great that all of them are my favorite ones.

I have an incomplete TG discography (*sniff*, I know, I know!), so this is what my rankings look like as of now:

1.) "Souvenirs"
2.) "Home"
3.) "Nighttime Birds"
4.) "Mandylion"
5.) "Always..."

Well, from the ones I've heard, this is the order of preference for me (no ratings, tho, I ain't a critic! ):

1. How to Measure a Planet? - The breakthrough. This album completely floored me when I heard it the first time, the band went into a radical new direction, and their inspiration seemed to know no bounds. Epic.

2. Home - Second to HTMAP, but proud successor to it, IMO. I love the atmosphere of the songs, the lyrics, it's sheer escapism for me.

3. Mandylion - Like HTMAP, a breakthrough, a trend-setter, a masterpiece of inspiration. It's no. 3 only because the first two are so much more inspired.

4. Souvenirs - Brilliant, lyrical, atmospheric, beautiful, and other adjectives as well.

5. Black Light District - Superbly emotional, the title track is just a milestone.

6. If_Then_Else - Fine moments (Amity, Saturnine, Rollercoaster), a momentary loss of direction IMO.

7. Nighttime Birds - The first TG album I ever heard, but arguably the weakest of the Anneke era. Still, some great moments in there!
