Exactly what is this song about? Is it about escaping from your everyday life, about finding the love of your life?

Anyone got any good theories? ;D

I believe I once read that Anneke was inspired by the optimism in the USA of the fifties. The feeling that there were new horizons, a bright future etc. ahead.
But whatever makes it 'work' for you will do... 8)

I hjavent done it yest but it might be interesting to have a close look at the lyrics of the demo version on Accessories, since this phrase was then part of the lyrics ;)

Ok, so here they are,
Both text versions, differences underlined.

Probably Built In The Fifties (album)
I might be moving to the east
to part my ways
And I will try to get something
I don't have yet
If I do, I will look at it
for days and days
Until I will never forget

I have heard this mental search
has made them all
take a look along the border
Having the urge

For their minds
to be lifted
to something new
I'm running to meet
my higher self

I trust the speed
Until I have no need
To run anymore

Miles and miles I run
Miles and miles I run

I hear my feet
And I hear myself breathe
heavily

I trust the speed
Until I have no need
To run anymore

Miles and miles I run
Miles and miles I run

*guitar riff I, slow synth part, heavy guitar riff II*

I trust the speed
Until I have no need

Miles and miles I run
Miles and miles I run

Probably Built In The Fifties (rarieties)
I might be moving to the east
to part my ways
And I will try to get something
I don't have yet
If I do, I will look at it
for days and days
Until I will never forget

I have heard this mental search
is probably
built in the fifties
when a mass of people
had the urge

For their minds
to be lifted
I'm running to meet
my higher self

I trust the speed
Until I have no need
To run anymore

Miles and miles I run, yes I am
Miles and miles I run, yes I am

I hear my feet
And I hear myself breathe
heavily

I trust the speed
Until I have no need
To run anymore

Miles and miles I run, yes I am
Miles and miles I run, yes I am

*heavy guitar(s) riff part I*

I trust the speed
Until I have no need

Miles and miles I run, yes I am
Miles and miles I run, yes I am

*long heavy guitar riff part II*

I trust the speed
until I have no need to

Miles and miles i run
Miles and miles i run

The "Miles and miles I run" thing is in the song HTMAP isn't it?

They seem to have used those lines there.

I haven't heard this song, but I like it's lyrics. I think the writer of the song was just noticing being in the wrong place. They live in Netherlands though. How could that be?

They were removed from one song and thrown into another, no?

As far as I know "Miles and miles I run" was always a part of lyrics of a song Probably Built in the 50's (on album as well as on Accessories)

It's interesting to hear that version on Accessories and then how Probably Built In The Fifties was developed.
The album version is absolutely great and live on Superheat too, I realy love it.

Oh! Oh! A topic about my fave song :D:D:D

It's a shame I don't really have anything to add about the interpretation  I sort of agree with pinovino.

Ah, nice to know this. I had no idea the Accessories version was different. Thanks for the info! :D

As for the song... man it's insanely good, yeah. The guitars part feels like being in heaven! I don't ever want it to stop. :P This whole song just rocks, can't believe that I once thought it was "meh".
