so far i've heard three songs by the gathering, that are: rescue me, you learn about it, and monsters. i'm very pleased with them and i want to buy some records. my question is, should anyone of you bother to answer, if their older records are different from the three quite recent songs mentioned above. it's come to my attention that they started out as a gothic metal band, and i fucking hate gothic metal bands... so... which album would be a good one for me to start with? thank you.

too many different I'd say... (and better for me.. :))...

the early years anneke wasn't in vocals and TG was a dark doom metal with grunt voices ('Always' is an amazing album).... later, when anneke arrived, TG was a metal band yet... I'd not classify them like gothic although many people does it..
anyway... you can listen to the most refined metal in mandylion and nighttime birds, both with anneke in vocals...

Well you know two songs from Souvenirs and one from How To Measure a Planet?, so I think you should go for one of those albums... If you really hate gothic metal, you could still like the Gathering for they are different to many bands of that kind... Have a look at Nighttime Birds and Mandylion aswell ;)

But definitely, How To Measure a Planet? and all the albums after can't be considered at all like gothic metal!!

Why I almost don't see nobody using the term "triprock" to define the band's style, since ever they used to name their sound with this label?
