So, now that Anneke has left TG ( ), what do you expect of the new album?

I'm actually really looking forward to it, I mean female and male vocals!!!!!

This sounds like it'll be another fucking great TG album!!!!!

:P

Sounds like their tours with LC may have helped make up their mind about this direction. Will be hard to imagine them wanting a male 'growler' at their middle-aged stage & it does not really match their trippy/beautiful compositions. A combo like LC would not work here, but a singer combo like Nightwish's male and a female like Leaves Eyes would be fine.

my 2 cents.

It all depends on who's behind the microphone...don't reject male vocals as non-trippy or emotional..look at bands like pink floyd, radiohead, portishead, porcupine tree, anathema etc...
Rene and Frank have always been great at making emotional and haunting music, (and ofcourse Anneke's soul, performance and lyrics combined everything into dream songs), but the core is still there, and hopefully TG will find the right voices to channel these emotions through.
I have to admit i'm very curious about the upcoming album, but since Rene is a perfectionist, i trust he'll find singers that suit the TG music..who knows? male vocals could bring heavier rythms and guitars, but still combine a female voice with frank's keyboard magic...and the result?
we'll have to wait and see...

And great lyrics, and a great person.

You said it!

Totally agree.

I don't face this as an end but as a new beggining.

trying to replace Anneke would be an impossible task.

put a mic in front of Marjolein and bring back Mista Smart Bits, haha! wait...why not after all? 8)

I know, people are saying that this is the end of TG but I agree with you,

it's a new beginning, not the end.

Marjolein sings pretty nice, I'd love to hear more of her :green: .

MALE VOCALS!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!

CAN"T FUCKING WAIIIT!!!!!!A

No really, the expectation opf how the band will sound now is killing me more than Anneke's departure hehe  .

Maybe they'll do doom again? Yeah, right  .

Yeah, I wish they would do doom. Always and Almost a Dance were already awesome except for the vocals, if they would just get a good singer it would kick ass. Of course that's not going to happen. I just hope the amazing The Gathering With Anneke doesn't turn into 2 cookie cutter pop bands because nobody involved seems to have much shame about that. :P

i don't know man, you sounds too optimistic to me... is not like i think their next album will suck, but i'm sure that not all the people will like it... there just will be too much goddam expectation...

The Gathering if far more than a belle-and-the-beast band, so forget the duo alla After Forever, it would be horrible. A male voice can work in my opinion, as another girl.... the problem remains the same: it has to be a top-notch musician, emotionnally speaking (and well, technically too I suppose)

From a music point of view, TG always sound more original and are wider opened than many talentuous musicians i know. They always like differences and music challenges... always taking risk... pushing their limits...composing freely like they do want with sincerity... never caring of the tendencies.

that's how and why i always liked them through the last era... and still do currently.

Anneke was not just a voice to me so i'm aware i may like their new music achievement as i may not.

also, i think i wont say anything else until the release and the listening of the new stuffs and album.

not guessing, i'll just wait and listen. everything is possible. that's it.

I'm curious on how they're going to select new vocals...
Will it be like Nightwish, or will they invite some singers they know... hmmm...
Anyway, I'm looking forward to hear some new themes from Rutten, I really love the musical compositions, and they are excelent musicians, so...
And as Anneke already has proved, no one is irreplaceable... she's already working with other musicians, and I'm quite sure that the Gathering will find other singers...
So best wishes to all of them...

as I said in another topic.... anneke will be history from august.

about the future of the band and about some new work.... I trust in rutten bross. yet... I really expect they will do something new and different to a style which, I hope, goes away with anneke, she has a new band where we'll listen to others blds, souvenirs and homes...

TG need another thing, they already tasted pop-sound flavor... maybe TG need to come back to their roots... it's just an idea.... but there's something clear... if TG wants to make something important, then it must be different to what they did lately.

I sure hope not.

I'd like to see them just continue on, perhaps add a few more agressive parts, but I don't want to hear anything else like what they used to make before Anneke... if they sound like that, I'm not even going to bother with the next album. It'd be regressive and I don't see the point.

But they won't do that, I don't think. I expect something new yet continual... and my biggest wish is to see Garm doing the male vocals.

Garm, now there's an idea... Not much news on the Ulver front lately. Only I doubt he'll perform live. And Marjolein, well frankly I don't think she's up to par with Anneke. She doesn't have the stage presence (yet?) Anneke has, though I can't say much about her vocals as I only have heard her do some backing vocals (which were fine, by the way). Anyone sent Marcela Bovio a note yet? ;)

As I already mentioned, The Gathering without Anneke doesn't make any sense to me. There might be a great new album, but I am extremely sure that almost everybody will think: "Nice music, but with Anneke singing it would be much better".

There is no room for male vocals in what The Gathering created with Anneke, so there will be a big change in musical direction. So TG will be a new band, TG as we have known them so far is dead.

Garm is always busy, don't worry about him (I can't wait for the next Ulver!) but for him there is absolutely no question to play live, so forget the idea.

I couldn't think of anyone better that I know of...
And I think she was also going to move to Holland at some point to continue with Stream of Passion.
Hmmmm.... :)
A metal approach with Marcela, that might be a pretty exciting combo...
