The Neon Bible album is fabulous. If you can write songs like No Cars Go, you deserve a statue as big as the eiffel tower.

I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 last night, and the cinema was playing "No Cars Go" in the intermission. The Arcade Fire have obviously become very successful very quickly. It seems to me that TG have never been too interested in straightforward commercial success (as an objective, separate from making good music). If that's right, as you grow older, does the idea become more attractive?

Hans, do you think that TG will try out more experimental arrangements? I'm thinking (for comparison's sake) of things like King Crimson in the "THRAK" era, with something like a double trio of musicians playing off each other. Of course not to imitate that, but maybe experimenting with nontraditional roles for the instruments or something?

Hmm. Even after all this time, I still haven't heard all of King Crimson's work. When it comes to "musicians playing off each other", my thoughts turn to Rush. Is there anyone here who's heard their new album, Snakes and Arrows? Since this is a Q&A topic, Hans, I'd better ask whether you've heard it. Three guys who've been playing together since 1968, and who get better and better. Snakes and Arrows is brilliant.

No, it was never our goal to make music for quick money. It seems that, when artists get older, they get wiser, or not that interested in money only (think: Madonna's Ray of light, Talk Talk's last 2 albums). The biggest influence behind commercial benefit is the record company and/or bandmanagement most of the time, and not the artist, as they invest and want their money back, plus profit (if it all 'works').

Yea it is!! The gathering fans always loved this enthusiasm. This is the reason, I think, that makes your music so special. It's just all you, it's great!!! I'm looking foward to listen to the new songs!!! Cant' wait!! :flower:

My view, if nobody minds: of course Ray of Light is a commercial album, but I've always seen it as Madonna's "my life has changed now that I'm a mother" album, and that "from the heart" aspect lifted it and made it something rather special. I've had no real interest in her work before or since, but Ray of Light is sitting in my CD collection.

Even if Madonna would record the breakfast with her children it would sell, but to answer your question; yes, I think that album is made by the heart. It is very esoteric and I think it was a risk to record it. La Isla Bonita surely wasn't a risk.
What am I doing? I am defending Madonna.. Ow my..

Yes, we heard the new Rush album. It sounded quite dull and a bit lifeless at first, so I think it needs some more spins so I can make a proper review. Last nice album was Counterparts. I hate that rabbit album though. But these guys do deserve all the respect. They made beautiful albums, Permanent Waves, Hemispheres, Grace under pressure, Signals.
I know Hugo has a :flower: secret tape :flower: somewhere in his house with an early 1991 Gathering playing a cover of Subdivisions, sung by Bart. Would be nice to hear it some day.

On Rush, I actually have nothing to compare Snakes and Arrows with. While I've been aware of the band for a long time, and of how influential they've been, I only started listening to the music itself very recently. From the few bits I've heard (and seen on YouTube), it does seem to me that they've kept on modifying their style as trends around them have changed. The question is: Have they been leading or following - or perhaps both? :-?

We know another band that keeps on changing ...

Dammit Hans, you´re asking for it... I bet I can find an old rehearsal tape with you singing...

On Ray of Light: excellent album, William Orbit is brilliant on that one. So what if it´s a more commercial album; sometimes records sell as much as they do because they´re actually good, not because they´ve been hyped...

The "rabbit" album is called Presto.. and i agree. What a horrible album :-?

Also agree about Counterparts, nice one... but I dont think it was their last "nice" album... Vapor Trails is a masterpiece!

Really don't know if I sung, but Frankie did on Subdivisions. He said: 'Subdivision', that low key word in the chorus.

I know Hugo recorded almost every rehearsal in 1990 till 1992. A lot of music, a lot of talkings, and a lot of fights between me and Rene. :flower:
