I just received my copy from The End and it's great of course!

I do have a question though, and I don't want to be nitpicky, but on disc 2 the volume drops out for a second every few minutes. I was wondering if they're all like that since I haven't seen it mentioned. Does anybody else's DVD do this?

If you watch this on a computer monitor or a not so huge full screen Tv, picture is ok.
But this concert was shot in Widescreen format 1.85:1.
And there is NO reason to NOT master this DVD in anamorphic quality, so that people who have a widescreen tv can enjoy this DVD and not have to zoom it up to fill the screen and have a very bad quality then.
The Gathering have shown that they can produce a good quality anamorphic DVD when they made "A sound relief", and I think it is the fault of the people who mastered the new DVD that it became such a mess.

And I am glad that I am not the only one seeing that the mastering of this DVD went wrong.

Again, do not understand me the wrong way, the concert itself is magical and I love it, the sound is good too.

Ive just played this dvd for the first time in months and had to do the same 'zoom' to get a widescreen picture. The show, tracklist, sound, lighting, and directing is brilliant!! So why did the manufacturers choose a 4:3 picture that is too small even on a widescreen tv. You really do have to 'zoom' it complete with distortion / pixilation to make the picture almost fit with the show. It was a big event, with big sound, a big audience, and a band with a very big reputation.....the picture does not do justice to this great concert and all the work put into it by everyone. Im so disapointed with it that i would gladly buy another copy if it was re-released as widescreen. I agree with all the points made by 'Always' and others on this subject, especially that if it could be done for ASR, then why not ANS which needed the big screen even more so. I just hope the bands future dvds, and indeed ADA's also are widescreen only releases.

Well my guess is that it was shot with camera that captures the images in 4:3

I just watched it this week, after having recieved it 2 months ago!
Great performance by everyone in the band, but you already knew that...

Quality-wise, the picture didn't bother me since I have a 4:3 tv, but I know these dvds don't come out too good zoomed-in on a 16:9. I'll probably settle for a very small picture when I do watch it on a 16:9....

I listened to it with the 5.1 track, and yes, I was disappointed..... It only seems like reverb and crowd noise coming from the surround speakers. I know this is done to re-create the feeling of being in the venue, but it didn't quite work well in this case. I'll give the PCM track a try next time around.
The 5.1 mix on A Sound Relief was so much better. Like you are on the stage with the band, and get this, are surrounded by the music!, and still hear the crowd. I absolutely loved it. In fact, that's one of the dvds I play to people who want to know what a good surround mix sounds like!
And A Sound Relief has the 5.1 mix in DTS. A Noise Severe only has the dolby digital track. Another drop in quality from the previous release....

I know I come off like another complainer, but I just expected the same level of quality that I got with ASR. Like I said, I'll watch it again with the PCM track, and will probably enjoy it even more, 'cos it is a fantastic performance.

I raise this dead thread from it's grave! Arise!

Awesome DVD! The quality of the work was most excellent. The only flaw? Not enough Marjolein to be seen! It was maddening to hear a wonderful bass line and not be able to see her play! :(

But all in all, a wonderful buy. :)

Yeah, that was pretty disappointing. The bass is a horribly underrated instrument.

That always happens to the greatest of us  . I find that very funny because you can't have a band without a bass, but you can have one without guitars. Yet guitar players are much more valued than bass players, for some reason. Maybe it's Blackmore's fault or something.

Are The Doors the only band that never had a Bass Player?

Hehe well that guitar is actually a bass. Can't you see...?

Hiding is something that I hope I will avoid if I ever play live :) .
