I checked out The Gathering on Music Brainz and it shows that there has been a "HTMAP? single" which contains a track called "The Rescue" that ive never heard of before.

does anyone know if this is a real release and does anyone own it?

It's not a single, but a 4-track promo CD of the "How To Measure A Planet?" album. 'The Rescue' is the old name for 'Rescue Me'. This song is one of the oldest (first written) songs for this album.

This 4 track promo is roughtly mixed. You have a very different sound (like you can hear the instrument more from each other) and "the Rescue" doesnt have the theremin solo...

I have it so I would upload it. Only if the band were agreed. And I guess they're not, (which is normal and obvious), since it is forbidden and that they're not reactive in the topic too.

about the song, "the Rescue" is just OK. not the version to enjoy the most cause the thermin makes the difference in "Rescue me"... this last one simply rules on its own.

It is also forbidden to sell it: "This CD cannot be sold. Any sale is unlawful and may be punishable under Federal and State law!" Anyway people make money with it in Ebay. Would uploading it be any more forbidden since there is no legal version to buy? The real HTMAP is out in the stores, so what about these "leaked" promos/demo-versions? Are they Century Media's property until they maybe some day release them? Just wondering...

just these off topic words (sorry):
I got most of my promos for free from bands or promoters during or after gigs or as mistaken "used CDs" even in legal official stores*(the case for promos CDs). these are very very cheap.... so cheap it is like anti-dumping. Sometimes you can also get free promos stuffs (t shirt, sampling, posters) from legal stores when buying a new release that just came out.
(*as for used // promo Cds, sometimes these sellers i'm talking about don't even know themselves they do sell promos... same for bootlegs... and this is not a joke! the reason is they receive so much used stock they don't have time to check the origin of it. working fast, they only check how the Cds look like and its condition... if it's of enough to be listened)

Of course there is no legal version to buy.. this is a promotional tool... I understand you want to get your ears on that but you know what, this year is the 10th anniversary of htmap? and so far Century Media always celebrated a TG album that reached a decade...
So well, why not having a re-release of htmap? it's sol dout, people sytill want to buy it, and even if the htmap demos were released on accessories, you could have those demo + the 4 track rough mixes as bonus for this re release

If you download the bootleg from 1998 rotterdam Nighttown in the bootleg section you will find out that it includes a few songs from this release!.....or maybe I shouldnt have said this?

I have the same as you guys but with autographs from the band.I thinks it's from the french promotion of the album.

I'm not sure there was a specific FR promo... and now the year reaches its end.. I'm not surprised but bit disappointed CM didnt celebrate the tenth anniversary of htmap?. Whether it's your fave album or not, it's a very important one in TG's history (but ok, the next one is even more! )
