And that other dude comment on Always being weakest. I disagree.
I think Almost A Dance is the only album not up to godly standards.

Jajaja, I syill remember you not being happy in Seattle when Frank told us NTB was his least fave TG album :P

I absolutely love the new songs, so far. They're maybe the most "accesible" Gathering songs I've ever heard, as far as melody and orchestration. Silje sounds great and fits like a glove. My first impression is that she sounds -- even looks -- a lot like Tori Amos. Can't wait to hear the rest of The West Pole.

Theres no sign of the 'back to rock' that was promised.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I cant recall the band saying anywhere "back to rock"... They say it would be more rock but never back... that band keeps looking forward... and whether it's discovering new horizons and bases for anew genre or not, what I hear is something they hadnt done yet :D

Going back to the original announcement:
Hans wrote:
Yes, we are working on a new album! Or actually, two new albums! Many of our new songs are very rock and guitar orientated and will end up on a heavy rock album for sure. The second album will be filled with more 'shoe gaze', dreamy tracks.

This might have been answered before, but are there still two new albums planned? If so is The West Pole the "shoe gaze" one?

I like the new tracks, but want to hear the whole album(s) to put them in context.

the west pole

Well I have just listened to the entire album and well, that’s my opinion about it.

The album doesn’t contain anything close to metal… that’s for sure, it’s a rock pop album, with hardrock bits maybe, and I might say that I was preferring to listen to Silje singing the Octavia's music style, but joining to TG was her choice I guess..

About band, I think this could be a little growing but a very small one anyway… let see what we can see:

There’re three songs that I don’t like at all, they tried to make something so pretentious with these songs and the result was something a bit insipid, I’m talking about ‘no bird call’, ‘capital of nowhere’ (this one was a real torture) and 'you promised a symphony'.. this one could have been better but piano arrangements are so basic and song dies with that…

‘Treasure’ and ‘no one spoken’ don’t have too much, there is too many pop elements here, rhythmic arrangements specially…

‘pale traces’ and ‘west pole’ were a good try, they are not bad songs…

The instrumental ‘when trust becomes sound’… well… it’s hard to say something… they tried to make a heavy song I guess…. but I think René forgot how to play heavy guitars with technic completely. to pass guitar pick through six strings as strong as possible with some overdrive like a beginner is not enough, … well, maybe it’s useful when a brit-pop band wants to make something strong.. or for some punk band… but I thing TG is more than it… I thought rené would change this way to play guitar in this album but nothing happened about that… unfortunately the same thing happens with the rest of fast and supposedly “heavy” songs… hans drums are very elementary too…

I can enjoy ‘all you are’ and “a constant run’ en my car maybe… but these songs have the same guitar a drum problems…

As a summary…. well, it’s a little step ahead, but instrumentally TG need to improve now… I know they tried to create some heavy songs…. but I don’t even know if they are heavy… the excessive use of pop rhythms conspires against some try to make heavy stuff, they need to change that, the potential of silje’s voice is a big opportunity in order to do it… and the other important thing is that there’s a big lack about drums and guitars… rock pop rhythms could be good but a seven minutes song without any pace change gets boring man…. and c´mon rene, where is your hand palm in order to make a good mute guitar with a power distortion when it’s necessary, that had been good for some songs in the album….

Whatever…

You made me think about the heavy stuff because it's basically true, they said it was going to be a very guitar oriented and heavy album, but only like 3 songs are like that. It's definitely more popish, especially with Treasure. I like the song, but it's something like TG-pop.

And m girlfriend, who has always being a TG hater (but hey, she did give me her Mandylion CD, so I got to know the band because of her hehe), couldn't wait to download the album. So I don't know if that's good or bad hehe.

I think I like the album, the problem is every time I listen it I have a different opinion  .
