I think the new album is a concept album. Based around strippers. The West Pole is only a metaphor...........

Cool news, I'll be looking forward to it with the greatest hopes (screw it, TG is still my favorite band, no way I adopt strategies here not to be let down), now I have a smile on my face :)
Hope the new singer doesn't come from a metal band, The Gathering has been far closer to rock for over 10 years now.
The West Pole is a nice album title btw, like the blue colour of it.

1)I hope the new singer is not one of those Operatic Metal, especially high pitched singing - Anneke sort of hinted at singing in that style, especially in the 90's but never totally sang in that style.
2)Hope the singer is not to pop/folky or the usual sort of alternative female vocal you hear.

Basically I'd like a singer that has a good range sonically, has a powerful voice, has emotion & puts expression into her lyrics - sound like someone - although she doesn't nessesarily have to sound like her (Anneke). You never know they might find some new amazing singer who has her own style, then again they could find some not so good singers as they did on the early albums. The one good thing is that they have the pulling power to attract better singers now.

For that last request I started thinking of Marjan Welman

Marjan Welman would be a good option.Only trouble is she'd be in 3 groups then.Autumn are producing an album at the moment I think. Her voice is very deep but very emotive.Marcela Bovio would the other Ayreon vocalist that I think would be posibility as previously said.I wouldn't mind either. Both would add something different to The Gathering & both are familiar with Anneke's/The Gathering's work. We'll see!

It's somehow natural to gravitate back to Marcela, but look. Stream of Passion are at work on their second studio album. Since the departure of Arjen and Lori, they've changed the band round a bit and it seems to me that they're heading for something heavier and more mainstream "metal" than any direction I personally expect The West Pole to take. I'm not implying any criticism of Marcela here: she's a great singer and a really nice person to meet, but she's put so much work into keeping SoP going that I can't imagine her suddenly abandoning it, changing course, not touring after the new SoP album is released and so on. Of all the people I can think of right now, she's the one who can best match Anneke - but I doubt whether things are heading in that direction.

We keep hearing that this is going to be a more guitar-driven album, but that doesn't mean that it has to go back into the "gothic metal" genre - which is now rather overworked and, if you ask me, in decline. The trick is to take things somewhere new, and if that involves a female vocalist, perhaps even define a new genre. (Not that a male vocalist couldn't work, but I mean to say that since Anneke, Tarja and a few others made waves by invading the male-dominated "metal" scene", the arrival of a girl singing a different style of music could spark something else that's new and unexpected.)

There's still so much that can be done with the guitar. You can argue that "metal" is defined by the presence of the guitar - and particularly by heavy or dense guitar work - but does that make everything that's done with guitars into metal? The terms of reference that we use are just the familiar ones, and that's because the past is there for us to experience, while the future remains unknown.

Are you hinting at more to the shoegaze/post-rock/trip-hop sort of direction.I've already suggested Ema Brabcova (Khoiba).I know there is quite a strong scene around them genres in the Netherlands.

Things will be made public when the band is ready to do so... There is no need to try get info from me...
Of course I already know a few things many dont know but still, what I know is nothing compared to what the band will say when they are ready to do so...
But yes, the wait is reaching its end... it's no matters of months now... we can count in weeks :) Only this makes me happy... Cause like you I'm impatient to hear the full result of the mix :)

No problem. ^

That wouldn't be loyal toward the band to spread the news before their agreement.

Since you talked about the artwork, I thought you wanted to introduce it. but it's non sense.

well, let's wait now! ehe!
