Graspop is a pretty "heavy metal" festival. I have a feeling the new album must be heavy :)

OMG.

And I thought Faridee was joking and photoshopped that line-up.
Seems they will be playing early that day but that's what happens after 2 years of silence and uncertainty.
The last 8-10 months I was really worried about the future of the Gathering but now we got a concert-date and
that can be the beginning of a whole new wonderfull era.
( and yes, this old fart is getting nervous and I think that's a good sign)
Good reason to grab some beer. Proost to you all. ( and proost to you Abbath, happy birthday) ^-^

G.

That's very interesting news, Faridee! If they're playing there, they must be playing other places too. 8)

THE GATHERING NEWSLETTER 05-02-2009

To fill the gap between now and the actual date we will put some songs on our MySpace and the announcement of the names of the vocalists (beginning of March), I can give you some song titles of our new album ‘The West Pole’. Some titles are: ‘When Trust Becomes Sound’, ‘Treasure’, ‘All You Are’, ‘You Promised Me A Symphony’, ‘The West Pole’, ‘Capital Of Nowhere’, ‘No Bird Call’, ‘Pale Traces’, ‘No One Spoke’, and ‘Constant Run’.

I'm definitely digging the song titles, very creative :D

Yeh, I don't think it will be any metal album. It will be another incredible album, though.

That's still a very interesting gig coming up. Look - let's face it - Sleepy Buildings was a special event, but taken together with Home and Anneke's own releases, there's a clearly visible trend away from heaviness. Perhaps the trend is now going in the opposite direction. There have been rumours and comments about this from the outset.

Let's also think carefully about the whole concept of "heaviness". There are many different ways in which instruments can be used "heavily". Think back to that heavy break in "Analog Park", for example, in an otherwise not particularly heavy song. For me, that track is absolute magic - it represents TG at their very best.

According to this interview with Hans in a Dutch local newspaper:

"We want to do some short tours in the Netherlands and Europe, including some festivals"

Hey, I hope someone from the band reads this!

I am soooo happy that you did not break up and I can't wait to hear the new album!

IT MAKES ME REALLY HAPPY THAT YOU ARE RECORDING A NEW ALBUM!!! I just love your music and I am sure the album will be as amazing as the previous ones!

I know I sound ridiculous, but that's how I feel, just wanted to share it. :-?

The headliners are the epitome of poor though, it's really "teenager metallish pop music". The Gathering kinda don't belong to the Graspop universe anymore, I'm slightly surprised they're still going there (well, why not, if it's a tradition, it's surely a lot of fun and everything but...)
I'm really excited to hear what kind of heavy TG is going towards

well I guess it comes from:
- promoters still consider TG as heavy (and they do have some followers amongst metalhead)
- TG couldn't seriously refuse to play such a big festival, they will reach some fans, could always get new ones, and should bring them some cash flow...
