Does anyone know which Gathering songs Silje had to sing to persuade the band that she's ready for the job? Or which old songs do you expect the band to perform live and which not?

Silje sent an e-mail to the band after she read that they were looking for a new singer. the band sent her two instrumental songs and asked her to make vocals and lyrics. she wrote the lyrics, made vocal lines and recorded them. after all finished, she sent them back so the band loved them and invited her to Holland blablabla....These two songs are "Treasure" and "A Constant Run".

That's a bit of a surprise to me 'cause it implies that the band didn't bother about how Silje would sing 'Anneke's songs', doesn't it?

why would they? if they were satisfied with what Silje did... they focus on now and on the future not on the past.. if that would mean a part of the old songs cant be played live no more.. so be it...

Sure, now the question remains, what songs will they abandon (for good)?

I am probably in the minority here, but I actually hope that they dont do many or any of the "old" material with Silje.. Mostly because I like Nightwish and still cringe whenever they do one of their older songs with their new singer. Anneke had her own unique style IMO, and I dont think many/any others can match it.

The question is, can the band afford to abandon their history? Right now I can't imagine them play heavy songs like 'Strange Machines', 'On Most Surfaces' etc. However, I do hope they don't cease playing songs like, 'Travel', 'Saturnine', 'Great Ocean Road', 'Even The Spirits Are Afraid', 'Alone', 'Kevin's Telescope' etc; that would be rather disappointing, wouldn't it? Moreover, I'm positive that Silje is well capable of doing the latter ones.

Other than that, there's no doubt that they should play quite a few new songs as well.

Silje will do well with heavier songs. If you listen to her other band, it's easy to see she will. On the other hand, Travel, Saturnine etc. They will not be the same. It doesn't mean they won't be good.

It makes no sense at all for them to stop playing older songs. They won't. They will play plenty. For headline gigs. Maybe they will add some Always, like Subzero. Silje can growl.

I disagree. For me, Silje can sing all the tg's songs.
Please, let's not make comparisons with nightwish

When I said I agree, I meant they should only attempt to perform songs that Selia can sing
I disagree. Can’t picture Selia singing most of the songs, especially when most of the songs were created with Anneke’s voice in mind. It’s going to be tough to perform these songs live from here on out.

Who is Selia? Is that like the fifth Beatle?

I still think of Anneke as my favourite singer, but i don't think she's irreplaceable in any tg's song.
I never bought the theory about songs fit only for a specific singer. Not even for Anneke.

Anyway we'll see.

I think this is non sense... seeing that the writing core of TG is René and Frank... they worte Mandlyion while they werent sure who would sing those songs... same goes with The West Pole...

Well, sure Mandylion and Nighttime Birds are not going to be a problem for SILJE (seeing how it bothers people that I type it how you pronounce it).

I did read an interview where the band said.. when writing songs they always kept Anneke's voice in mind. The band can mix things up to fit Silje's voice, but it's not going to have the same magic as before.

Do you know who are the others "finalist" that have also sended a tape to the band with their own interpretation of "Treasure"?

Now that the story has finally ended it will be great to listen all the audiction...

I know that Anne made the audition with Capital of Nowhere, cause already a year ago there was a demo of that song. So I guess Marcela got her audition with Pale Traces... But yeah, I wonder if there are some other recordings somewhere
