Our dutch/norwegian/mexican heroes/heroins really deserve a good round of blows with a big stick on their shoulders. :tw: :D :o
WHY on fu*@#d earth they made this EP instead of placing Miniature and City From Above in TWP? Even at the cost of one of the weakest tracks?
The spanish version of Pale Traces is a natural bonus track, the radio edits are negligible.
City From Above is the darker twin of No Bird Call. They can't exist one without the other.
Miniature is a gem. One of the best TG songs ever.

I really, really hope they will correct the mistake in the next release of TWP.

i dont think thats happening

I suppose you're right (for pratical reasons?), but i'm sorry to see Miniature and City From Above exiled in a limited-edition EP.

Judging from the reviews I've read so far - and ONLY on that basis, because I haven't heard the album yet - I'd indeed suggest that some forward planning for a special deluxe edition that offers The West Pole and City From Above together might not be a bad idea.

It's beginning to sound as though some conservatism just may have crept in somewhere.

Maybe a little lack of self-confidence after the shocking departure of Anneke?

I did City from Above in the dark, quite loud and waw!! that is quite something! You need to be 'prepared' because this is a very experimental track, which reminded me instantly of Eyes Wide Shut OST (due to the ghostly vocals).

it reminded me very much of A Saucerfull of Secrets by Pink Floyd

That conservatism was apparently completely intentional:

http://www.nu.nl/muziek/1957097/the-gathering-terug-met-nieuwe-cd-en-nieuwe-zangeres.html

Hans Rutten: "'We staan bekend om onze muzikale experimenten, maar in dit geval wilden we geen risico's nemen. We namen al genoeg risico zonder onze vaste zangeres.''
translation: "We are known for our musical experiments, but in this case we didn't want to take any risks since having not our regular singer on board was a big risk enough"

I guess with regular singer he really meant to say previous singer.

The city from above track is awsome, great, great stuf! And I agree with FX-65 that it's almost like a missing piece of the full album.

After only several listens of the album and single (so it may well change along the lines), this track is the one that is most "the gathering" to me.

So, Hans, René and fellow band members, please start thinking about a special 2-CD edition.

If the first pressing of the EP has been limited to 2000 copies (is that right?), it'll soon becme a historical curiosity. On the other hand, a 2-CD special edition could be selling in the shops for years to come. That's my perspective. It's meant to be a positive view about spreading the word and enlarging the market/sales, not a grumble.

I think the EP got pressed so limited because the band didnt want to think too big... and before this becomes a 2CD editions, the band will want to sell the 1CD copies first ;)

Naturally. And I'm not planning to wait until a special edition becomes available. I'll pick up a copy of The West Pole as soon as I can. But in due course ...

No special editions! Buy the EP while it lasts.

At last I got my pack and I was able to listen to the EP! Well, I have to say I wasn't impressed at all. Miniature starts very well but imho it becomes boring at the end (I guess it will grow on me later?), the alternative version of Pale Traces has better instrumentation but the mutilation made to the song for me is just too much. And City from above is... ehrm... please somebody tell me which word of "modern dance" I didn't understand because this song is everything but dance and modern lol.

Oh well, I'm very disappointed with the EP, but now I have my CD player playing out loud TWP! :D

I don't think you should read that as Modern Dance as in type of music but that is was music made for a Modern Dance = Modern Ballet project.

Oh! That makes sense then! I didn't think in "dance" as that. Thank you for the info! :D
