I like the EP, I just don't like that "Pale Traces" is not entirely in Spanish  .

That's a funny thing about Marcela. She entirely lets the music "speaks" to her, so the music can decide what to do. You can hear some of that English-Spanish combination on Stream of Passion's albums (songs like Haunted, Out in the real world...), which I think is a personal touch. When you think of translating a song, you'd have a different feeling from one language to another, specially when you have a melody already set.

Still, I would like the music would have told her in this case: Keep the whole lyrics in Spanish

I also agree Miniature is one of the best Gathering tracks ever - and it is a shame to see it released on an EP, when it is stronger than all the tracks on TWP, save perhaps, TWP, No One Spoke and, Capital of Nowhere. To me, the Spanish version of Pale Traces is also better (it cuts straight to the point). It also seems strange that those 2 incredible tracks are not even from the main singer. Makes you wonder if they made the right choice! I do like Silje, she has a different sound and I think that the band purposely wanted to shy away from anything too Anneke-like. Listening to Marcela'a previous work is like listening to unreleased Agua de Annique a lot of the time!

Nobody needs an Anneke clone, need they?

I don't find Marcela's earlier work with Elfonia all that much like AdA - there's a different vibe altogether. Marcela's earlier work with Stream of Passion, by which I mean the first SoP album, probably has more to do with the musical ideas of Arjen Lucassen and Lori Linstruth. So, has anyone heard the new SoP album (or isn't it out yet)?

I've listened to the new Stream of Passion album and I find it quite boring.

Hmm.

1. If that's the case, the heyday for music like that may have passed, but ....

2. Marcela has a wonderful singing voice. She has a really nice speaking voice too, but that's another matter entirely.

3. In my opinion, Marcela could do any number of different things with her voice, ranging from folk singing à la Joan Baez through jazzy stuff (touched on in her Elfonia stuff) through "full on" metal to opera (there are links to some of her operatic singing on this forum). I'm not passing judgement on the new SoP album until I've heard it, but I just hope that she ends up making the very best use of the great gift that she has.

On the other hand, what she chooses to do is really none of my business - any more than it is in the case of Anneke.

Miniature I don't like at all. My least favorite of any song on the album or EP, by far.
