Am I the only one who thinks that this tune just oozes Cocteau Twins in the beginning? If the guitar in the beginning sounded a bit more tinkling, metalic (not metal) and the drums were an 80s drum-machine and then the vocals kick in it just is a deadringer for almost anything the Coctea Twins did in the 80s.

BTW, love Anne van den Hoogen's vocals... does she have her own band or project out there?

I haven't heard "Capital of Nowhere" yet, but there are echoes of 1980s band All About Eve in "Treasure" - right down to vocalisation - especially at 00:38 to 00:42 (late-era All About Eve, about the time of their Ultraviolet album). This is probably just coincidental, but beyond that, influences do of course go round and round.

On Anne, yes - see http://www.myspace.com/annevandenhoogen.

Meanwhile, there are some great new pics of Marcela on her MySpace page.

Never heard of Cocteau Twins, but the vocal lines reminded me of Emiliana Torrini.

The song (just like the voice) is absolutely beautiful, the best of the album just behind the title song.

Go here and listen to one of their early masterpieces. And if you can't understand the lyrics, don't bother I can't either :D

We weren't supposed to understand the lyrics. That's the Liz Fraser magic for you.

Anyone not familiar with the Cocteau Twins can hear Liz on Massive Attack's "Teardrop".

I'd rather Silje sang the song. Moreover, there's too much reverb in the vocals there.

I agree, I love the song and the vocals are beautiful but they sound a bit to childish to me. I cant wait to hear Silje sing this song.

Total Massive Attack vibe on this - the band went all out on making their own Teardrop. And the song is beautiful - until the mic broke and the record started skipping.

Always did like 'Song to the Siren' by Elizabeth Fraser. I have it on "It'll End in Tears" CAD 411 on the 4AD Label from the UK, This Mortal Coil Album having a 1984 release date.
