It looks very much as though she can do just about anything, singing-wise. I wonder whether we'll hear her operatic voice on the new SoP album? I'm also convinced that if she chose to make an album of Spanish and American English folk songs, she could match, if not surpass, the early Joan Baez albums.

No, she doesn't sing opera in the new album.
You'll just find an operatic choir in the opening track...

After seeing such clips I was especially convinced that Bovio really understated herself on the record.

Theyre all awfully recorded and its just a rough demo but well... i cant complain, two very talented girls singing some of my stuff is not something you get everyday =)

That's all pretty cool really (speaking as someone who's written a lot of poetry, some of which could - in theory - be used as song lyrics, but ... :( ).* Hang on in there and see what happens!

*Perhaps even the more "concrete" poetry could be set to music. After all, parts of William Blake's The Marriage of Haven and Hell are just text paragraphs, but that didn't stop Ulver.

9. I find myself not really going back to this album so much, now that I've heard it a few times. Maybe it's because I'm listening to Fever Ray, St. Vincent and Neko Case at the moment, and perhaps not in the mood for TG right now, but I find the material on the record to be a bit too "safe" like others have said. The energetic songs are good but there are too few of them to draw me back to the album when it isn't playing. This is the first TG album to do this to me since the pre-Anneke releases, which I didn't even bother buying.

This might change, of course, in a little while, but right now this album isn't doing so much for me.

I feel exactly the same ... although I don't know just one of the mentioned bands...I'm more into classical music atm.

I like classical. But I'm not in the mood for it these days. :)

Funny. I was just telling some friends here how I wore my West Pole shirt to a Classical concert yesterday. I didn't really fit in with the old folks there. :tw:

I don't agree with you here. The reason why I couldn't get into the album at first is (surprise) the new voice(s) so the fact that TG kept the music in line with previous albums (to me) helps to reconciliate with the absence of the familiar voice we all know so well. For me it is a HUGE step...

Having said this much, there are favourite songs such as Capital of nowhere, Pale traces and title track. Silje definitely has not only a different voice, color but also style. Not that I'm an expert in the field but when the material would have been too far away from previous albums, I might have quit listening just like that.

Odly enough I do like You promised me a symphony.

Another slight problem I have is the murky production. I have moments like; "Okay just what am I supposed to hear right now"... :-|
Not that I would call it badly produced, but the sound isn't cristal clear like if_then_else or latter albums.
I think that some tracks needs to be stripped down a little bit but overall I'm curious what this will give on stage.

Actually the dirty production is something that is coming back... cause people (I include myself in that lot) tend to get bored of neat stuffs... look at the latest Portishead, absolutely raw production... not a ounce of reverb or effects... yet it is one of the best releases of last year...

got the album today and listened to it thrice... i got the time to do it ... I know it is still too early to write about something convincing by now.

but the feeling is I liked it. to be honest. so congratulations to the band for the biggest challenge they won.

I know the gathering discography and sound with all my heart and my ears and for so many years but I have to say I'm discovering a new band today.. with a new music skin.

this album is not a masterpiece (yet) and i don't like all the songs but it's growing

yeah, time for changes! congratulations again.
