-------There is some sad news in this though as Marjolein can’t go with us the first week of this tour due to her daytime job. Luckily she will be there the 2nd and 3rd week. So, who will play bass guitar then? :) We had only one name in our mind: Hugo Prinsen Geerligs. As many of you know Hugo was with us for 15 years and we were very happy when we asked Hugo and he said yes! 5 years have gone and now he will join us and help us out! These gigs will be something special for sure and give our 20th anniversary even more cachet!------ Hans, 23 oct 2009 The Gathering – 20th anniversary!---------

I personally think it's great.... Hugo is getting back on track !!!!!

I dont want to be rude, but it seems you didnt get the irony of Phil...

I'm wondering if Hugo will also be singing some backing vocals :p

well, I was just wondering if this could facilitate his return, which could help to strengthen the band a lot, and this is even more important now when they are starting a new phase of the band ... and that no one says something about it, surprises me..... that´s all
if you are not interested, why do you bother to write

Even though I love Hugo's approach to bass, I dont want him to come back... I think it's great that he will be joining for a week, but I think the page has been turned... and the Gathering is not Iron Maiden, they won't kick Marjolein out of the band to facilitate the return of a former member.

Marjolein is a strong bass player, and she grew a lot musically the last years. Her stage presence also improved a lot and I was surprised how much backing vocals she does nowadays, which is also a great addition during the live shows...

sorry... i don´t have anything against Marjolein, but I think she isn´t working at the level of the band... and I know there are some people thinks the same.... I really would like tG go back to the basis...some people wants to they comeback to the always era, I don´t want that, but I think Hugo will work so much better with the band... like the old times. I agree about the backing vocals she does is also a great addition during the live shows, but that´s all in my opinión....

What do you mean? Iron Maiden didn't kick Janick Gers out of the band in order to get Adrian Smith back in!

The only way I would like Hugo to come back is Marjo as a second guitar (she does it great in le dimanche!!!).

Hugo is great, but I like Marjo's Style

Well it depends on which song...
A Noise Severe live misses the clean guitar line (which I thought was bass in the beginning) or The West Pole intro (also clean sound) is played by samples live cause it's in another tuning than the rest of the song... and I find it a pity too that it's not played for real...

But well, in the end, I think people who hopes for Hugo's return will be disappointed, I dont see it coming...

Hmm. There could be a lot more flexibility, and it wouldn't do any harm. For example, two bass players on different-sounding instruments; one four-stringed bass alongside a five- or six-string bass; more variety in guitar work (the band used to have two guitarists, after all); more vocal flexibility while keeping a strong bass line; ...

Alright, Hugo is just coming back for a very short time ...

but if you look at it, the band had a longer time with one guitar player than with two ;) (that's true if you count in year or in albums ;))

Two bass players would be great. It's time for a style change, let's play funeral doom! :green:

It's a great subtitute, but I still think, musicallywise Marjolein is way better trained, more professional.
I wouldn't like to see Hugo back on bass, cause I think TG has to sail away from their old values..same goes for reuniting with Anneke. I just don't believe those things would work on a permanent base!
