The new song is absolutely incredible. Wow. Was NOT expecting any more really long songs from this band these days. So excited for the new album.

EFF YEAH!
I did not expect this but I sure as hell like it. As icarus stated in the other topic, this is in a similar vein as Miniatures and City from Above from the EP. And those two songs surpass anything that is on The West Pole in my ears. So I am very curious as to what the album will bring. In the mean time: Heroes for Ghosts goes into heavy rotation.

Also: Is the title "Heroes for Ghosts" a conscious reference to Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here" or just a coincidence? Either way I don't mind. The song is great, diverse, rich in atmosphere... Love it! :green:

Great stuff!

I hope, there is no song under ten-minute playing time on the new album. :green:

The first time I heard it, I felt like time just stopped. It's beautiful, and the second part is just fantastic. Would be amazing if a real trumpet played live :D

The Gathering Music Video Nearly Finished!

published by Marcus Moonen on Wed, 25/05/2011 - 06:43
Since I got back from filming the music video for The Gathering's new track Heroes For Ghosts (free download!), I've been working almost non-stop on thinking about, structuring, designing and editing the video... And I've loved every second of it! Not only because I love what I do -make films-, but also because I LOVE the track! It's hypnotic, it's got drive, it's ecstatic and it's beautiful. And I think the video will do it justice.

Editing can be a very lonely job and you have to be careful not to become too myopic. There´s a risk you run that you won´t be able to look at the work objectively anymore, after a while. I was very lucky to be able to discuss my work with two kick-ass filmmakers, one in Hollywood, the other in Hong Kong. Their feedback and perspective were invaluable, so thank you Joe and thank you John for taking the time to watch an early version and giving me feedback!

At this point I'm about 90% - 95% percent done. There's some minor adjustments I'd like to make and then it's ready to go live from my end of things. So hopefully it won't be very much longer now! Stay tuned, folks!

This song is really good. Better than any songs on the West Pole and I am a fan this album.

Rene's production is better, Silje own this song, Frank's genius songwriting is once again pretty obvious, great beat from Hans and Marjolein drives this song wonderfully.

I am very happy ! Thank you The Gathering, can't wait for the album !

Hello The Gathering,

I'm late, listenin to it for the first time todayyyyyyyyyy!!!
bouhouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

So that is a good song to me as the structure is very interesting too.

The first half is very captivating, deep and emotionnal, but known from the West Pole album tunes in a way.The Silje touch brings it well again.

The second half disorientates, in a more cristallizing and experimented way... good instrumental, melodic but seriously too long to me (too much trumpet), before it blows up with Silje and Rene's guitar. nice ending.

Anyway, that's very good job. not far from the masterpiece.
I wonder how this sounds on stage.

Many thanks

see you

ps: my opinion may change soon as I'm more into pure and oldie jazzy stuffs currently

So I guess this name was taken from Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"?

Absolutely incredible! This song gave me goosebumps all over. Seriously, this song ranks right up as one of the best you guys have ever done, for me anyways.

So great to hear new stuff. Please come to Canada on your next tour!

Cheers!

This song is absolutely awesome. I can't wait for the album ! And I try not to listen to it too much in order to keep a bit of fresh hearing for the whole album... But it's frustrating :)

The length fits well with me (but hey, I come from the prog side...), the feel and the rhythm are great, the trumpet is a fantastic idea... A pleasure from start to finish.

A little surprise in the central part : after a few listening I realized it has - in my ears - some common ground with some of the best pieces of Bel Canto - especially the tones in Silje voice. An unlikely parenthood, I'd say :)

Hm, in other words: I have to save some money over the next few years in order to be able to buy one... Mustangs are incredibly expensive, aren't they? :P

Beautifully restored late 60s early 70s Ford Mustang can set you back about 30 to 50 thousand dollars.
