AZ!!! It was a lesson in soccer, my friend! :tw: Don't forget AZ has 1/10th of the budget Lisboa has!

But....I remember that your favourite team is NEC :D

Sorry Hans, but I have to disagree. Yeah, AZ played very well and Sporting had a bit of luck, but I think that in both legs we were superior. And that AZ player, Van Galen, shouldn't be allowed to play: I remember a clear aggression over our player João Moutinho in the 2nd half.

About the budget, you're right. Money don't buy talent nor will to play, but I honestly think that Sporting has much more talent than AZ's team. Nevertheless, I have to say that AZ's manager, Co Adriaanse, is a master in his job. I'm worried about that, since news are appointing him as the next FC Porto's manager. And FC Porto is, together with Benfica, major rival of Sporting.

it's not necessary to support a TOWN. they are TEAMS. they don't necesarilly have to be from your town. i live in piraeus and all my family support Olympiakos, but iam a big AEK fan..that's life

i still dont understand. the only way for me to understand how can someone stick to one team is when its your hometown, or some place you lived in or something (thats how it used to work anyway). now people just browse 'football magazine' and pick the team that looks cooler and who's players appear in nike ads

Sticking to your home town: perhaps that's the way it should be. After all, footy as we know it (two teams of 11 players) evolved from two large crowds pushing the ball about. That was gradually refined until you had the two recognisable teams and a bunch of supporters, so naturally the supporters evolved from former players for the same "cause", which you could translate into fellow hometowners.

But - rightly or wrongly - we've moved a hell of a long way from that, which is why Manchester United, for one, is now a "global brand", like Coca-Cola. Footy has become big business. I'm not in favour of that outcome. I'd rather watch a bunch of decent lads (or lasses) from some little town running rings round the big teams, as sometimes happens in the UK's FA Cup.

thats it. now you get greek lads fighting over manchester vs arsenal, because they saw ronaldo or thierry henry in a nike ad and think its cool to support them. i doubt anyone in uk cares for AEK/panathinaikos tho. footy completely lost its essence these days, the international games are a real bore now, theres so much pressure now that the players are afraid to try anything. give me back the maradona days

that's by far the most funniest joke I heard about those two matches! A soccer club with such a small budget compared to Lisboa, playing so well, in no way that lisboa was superior than :D I was even really pissed of by that undeserved and very lucky goal you guys made and now you were superior?? Don't let me laugh..it's pathetic!
