So how did you like the Holland Mortal Kombat tournament team?

The Holland Mortal Kombat tournament team? I don't really get that one? :P

I thought Holland played seven pretty poor games. Maybe except from the 2nd half against Brasil. It kinda surprised me that they advanced to the final. The group stage and 1/8 finals weren't so hard (I'm sorry, people from Denmark, Japan, Cameroon and Slovakia) but I was really surprised they beat Brazil and Uruguay. I had to work the evening before the match against Brazil, and everyone at my work sweared at me when I said I thought Holland would lose 2-0 without a chance. After 45 minutes, that would be possible. Only look at that Robinho goal, they hadn't got a chance there. And a few minutes before the match against Uruguay, I sent an sms to a friend of mine: "I expect 3-2 win for Holland, in a game in which three quarters of Holland get a heart attack. I was right!

So the final didn't surprise me, both teams played in their spirits of the entire tournament: boring and poor. But in the end one team has to score, and well, I rather see Spain beating us than Germany... :P

(So that was a Dutch boy's view of the tournament... How does the rest of the world see "our" tournament, and the tournament in general?)

the tournament in general was poor.. Only Germany did great. Argentina was funny for Maradona's comment and behaviour.
The Dutch plyaed hard in the final but the rest of the tournament was alright iMO... they did score lost of goal aswell.
In the end, neither the NL nor Spain deserved victory... Maybe a final Uruguay vs Germany would have been more entertaining... I havent seen that match (for the 3rd place) but it seemed it was quite good to watch, judging how the score progressed... ;)

Ah, now I get it :P Well, that one foul was really unheard of, but in general, that ref was the cause of many of the cards himself as well. Call it patriottic, but we in Holland ran out of the house screaming and cursing everytime he handed out one...

Looked a bit like the game against Portugal four years ago... But I was still pretty young back then, I didn't get much of that game... :)

(That wasn't the only time I didn't get a game, by the way. I remember being in the stadium for the Champions League semifinal between PSV and Milan in 2005. PSV had lost 2-0 in Milan, and according to my dad, they played the best game he had ever seen that night. Milan didn't have a chance in Eindhoven that night, they lost 3-1. When it was 2-0, the only thing I thought was that they couldn't go into extra time, because I had school the next day, I had to wake up early... No thought about it being immense and unbelievable that the big A.C. Milan was sent home crying here... When Ambrosini and Cocu scored 2-1 and 3-1 in additional time, I didn't think of away goals counting double, so I thought we were going into extra time. I saw all exhausted players on the pitch, that made sense. The only thing that didn't make sense was that my dad didn't look very happy and was about to leave. So I went with him, and asked in the car if we were going to watch the extra time at home on television... :P)

Forgive me, I was just about to turn 11... :P

I got the last match day of the Dutch competition in 2007 as well... The most legendary quote of my life, during the half-time break, to my Dad: "Dad, I think I just pissed pure adrenaline a few moments ago!?"

Yeah. Those were the days... :)

So, Ajax and PAOK draw 3-3, and Ajax win on away goals. Any comments from our Greek friends? ;)

So what club are you fan of?

And are you just not a PAOK fan, or are they something like (arch) rivals? (6)

every healthy man in greece hates olympiakos, the most disgusting and corrupted team in the world.

we have fans of AEK(incl. myself) ,Panathinaikos, PAOK, even Aris and Larisa in the forum. we're rivals but we get along most of the time, espesially when dissing olympiakos 8)

Why are Olympiakos corrupted? Really in means of paying referees and stuff like that, or...?

Okay, AEK, Panathinaikos and PAOK play pretty well mostly... Aris and Larisa aren't that good, right? (Just checking my knowledge of Greek football... :P ) And nobody likes to play away games in Greece, which I can totally understand... Are you also part of that fanatic fans that set stands on fire and stuff like that? :tw:

It's a long story to discuss. They always were the most corrupted team, but since the mid-90s when their latest owner took charge they became hated by every single man who is not fan of olympiakos.
About their chairman: German investigations in the Stasi archives found a 350-page report referring to agent "Rocco" ("953/63"). It turned out that the Rocco was Sokratis Kokkalis, recruited on 25 January 1963. Kokkalis has been accused of bribing Greek officials to buy East German telecom equipment.
he is accused of many crimes. so you can imagine what he has done to football in Greece. it's a tragedy. anyway.. for the "history" olympiakos had "won" 12 out of 13 last championships.. rofl.
