I saw this one at a film club. Unfortunately, in the discussion that folowed people seemed to have missed the point
of the movie. The kept on discussing about the films controversial themes and saw it as a movie about gay people, not as a movie about finding one's other half (like I saw it). After the first 10 minutes I didn't even care about the ambifuous gender of the main character. I just watched the movie.
I liked this line:
Hedwig: "It is clear that I must find my other half. But is it a he or a she? What does this person look like? Identical to me? Or somehow complimentary? Does my other half have what I don't? Did he get the looks? The luck? The love? Were we really separated forceably or did he just run off with the good stuff? Or did I? Will this person embarass me? What about sex? Is that how we put ourselves back together again? Or can two people actually become one again? "

hahahaha what a controvertial subject, i made this toppic cause i was surprised by the reaction of the american people.... now i am waithing For the movie in mexico to see the reaction of the mexicans.

i made it too cause i think that kind of reactions souldn't exists, is just movie of a real story that anyone can live anytime.

Just one word about this thread from me.

I felt strange about ppl who I can't understand because they work..ehm...on a bit different way in thinking then me about sexual things. Just let me share you the 2 things that changed this. Both of them are related with art.

1) a film, Philadelphia. It was a touching story, I guess it was well-played and showed me a very deep human side of this kind of difference - that's not THAT different at all!

2) difference...a big amount of ppl can't handle ANY difference. And this is also for genial ppl. Okay, I don't think it will be doubts about it that there was a brilliant singer by whom nobody says for first, "oooh he's a gay" just bows before his greatness. Let me not say his name, only a picture

So...I don't think that this kind of difference can ruin all that gift was about what he gave (of course together with his musician friends) to THAT LOTS of people.

And then just think on... Imagine that you get very close with someone who gives you stg. Will that what he/she has given to you change in its worth just because that kind of difference you cannot even comprehend how it works?

Well... if it does make some sense, I think about so. It's just hard to explain.

^ that sums it up really. For me, anyway. I know it's impossible to escape or avoid it but society's constant need for labels and pointing out differences is so frustrating.

and some people are sometimes silly enough to feel the need to state their gay/white/black/etc pride.
