I am an EC comics addict (collecting all i can: paperback, hardcover, library edition, annuals, covers set...).

They're from the 1950'S years but were reprinted in the 80's and 90's... in 2006 they started to print full color editions.

Al Feldstein, Ghastly , Jack Kamen, Joe Orlando, Jack Davis, Johnny Craig and Reed Crandall are my fave artists.

I prefer black and white editions and original paperback. These are old but the drawing and atmosphere grip more i would say.

My favourites series are Tales From the Crypt, Crime and Shock SuspenStories, the Vault of Horror, The Haunt of Fear, Weird Science and Psycho-Analysis.

i also like Picto fiction for which the B & W drawings rules.

actually, this passion began since Tales From the Crypt TV show was broadcasted.
then, i realized the comics were far superior than the shows, the stories are much killer and really the best ever I've read.

If there are some fans over here, don't hesitate about posting!

hummm, interesting thread.
Tales From The Crypt, eh? I love anything that's about horror, but I haven't readed yet.
scarier than the tv show? then it sounds like my kind of readings...

In other news, nothing can beat Watchmen

I'm already waiting for the movie (03.06.09), is being directed by Zack Snyder, and what can I say, not an easy job to transform in film an extraordinary complex graphic novel like this one. But at least the fototographic work looks promising to me:

actually some of the ECs stories are scary and gore but most of them are thrilling and funny.
they're not insane and they're moral (mmmm... well, it depends lol).
I enjoy the stories but also the illustrations very much. I wish I could draw like this
I would say it's scarier when you read the black and white edition.

Sometimes it's difficult to guess the end of each story. Some of them are masterpieces.

have just finished to read the complete vault of horror stories set in library edition (black and white pages rules) yesterday night and it was wow...perfect! some drawing are trully bombastic.
read many stories which were adapted on television for tales From the Crypt TV show.

now, start getting into Crime suspenstories ehehe... the complete set got 120 stories too... it's gonna be long... but so tasty.

will receive soon psycho-analysis. so excited

In each serie, I'm looking especially for each Crandall illustrations. This guy is my god. lol
One day, I'll draw like him. ahaha

discussed with comics readers and sellers during the last months. actually there are not that many EC fans in France. also most of them are over 40-50. mmm not obvious to meet them.

whatever well i found my passion (can't stand those superheroes cheesy things anymore) and I'm not gonna change directions

a huge EC fan

have read this one last night...
by Bernie Wrightson. i have the french edition so the artwork cover is not the same.

I saw the movie in 1985 so I caught this comic in an old store to see the difference and reminding memories. really good one... full color pages, the adaptation is respected.

Image

recently finished reading all 1950s EC comic book series.

ImageNow starting with B & W Creepy comics series. these are from the 60s this time. I chose these ones cause they involve some of my fave EC comic art drawer such as Reed Crandall, Frazetta or Jack Davis... these looks vintage and classy, including many fine details (i looooove details!)... probably my style when drawing.

Creepy got more simplistic and great stories and the inspiration from EC is obvious. as well, the design is perfect. i'm discovering some old talents.
i don't like most of Creepy artwork cover (ugly color choices) but what matter is what you see inside and it worth it!! a lot of stories are masterpieces close to horror classics but also the twilight zone shows and so one... so, if you like EC, then "Creepy" is point of no return

I have read this last one last week end and I was so amazed!

this is not a comic book and it had for sure influence on it.

Image

the artwork front cover doesn't reveal what's inside for real.

this book was published in 1977 and deals with the oldest and famous detective and crime stories in history . It contains over 380 dark illustrations of famous and unknown characters and scenes (from sherlock holmes to fu manchu). Oustanding ones! the pictures kill ! no computer software, no cheating ...so much details and patience the illustrators gave in their art. This book is rare and from old generations but it is a must have for the vintage art lover or for drawer who wants to improve in this style.
i looooove it!

recently read this book in my favourite creepy store!

Image

This is a book about Berni Wrightson who I talked about in the previous message. I can't believe this guy made his own comic when he was six years old!! impressive!
being a big EC fan, this guy is still a master of macabre comics today.
"A look back" is kinda biography piece (you'll know everything about his career)with plenty of great illustrations (for magazines: creepy, creepshow...)
it was too expensive so I didn't buy ... not by now... It's Xmas soon... mm maybe later.

found this one recently. this is not a pure EC item. looks like at first. but wrong. it's a seven plates portfolio by Wally Wood (EC graphist). numbered copy released in 1977. a parodic vision of Weird Science and Fantasy. (with sexual contents).
Glad to get this one.
