Hi sitemasters,
I don't know where this subject belongs, but I put it here.
I can see that there is some re-organizing and re-designing going on.
That's nice. Changes are always good, at the end.
Just one reflection: the titles are now longer – and less clear. It's more difficult to read:

English • The Gathering • These Good People
English • The Gathering • Concerts
English • The Gathering • Links, Interviews & Pictures
English • The Gathering • Fans & Meetings
English • The Gathering • Trading
English • The Gathering • Forum & Website
English • Music
English • General

instead of:

These Good People
Concerts
Links, Interviews & Pictures
Fans & Meetings
Trading
Forum & Website
Music
General

May I make a proposition? You could separate the titles in different shades of green, or/and the letters in different weights, like regular and bold. Like this:

English • The Gathering
• Concerts
English • The Gathering • Links, Interviews & Pictures
English • The Gathering • Fans & Meetings
English • The Gathering • Trading
English • The Gathering • Forum & Website
English • Music
English • General

Or like this:

English • The Gathering • Concerts
English • The Gathering • Links, Interviews & Pictures
English • The Gathering • Fans & Meetings
English • The Gathering • Trading
English • The Gathering • Forum & Website
English • Music
English • General

Hope you don't think I'm poking my nose into other peoples business. :-?
Humbly yours,
Kenneth

It's a little strange now, but sooner or later I'm sure I'll get used to it :)

Yeah, I'm not liking it either.

It's sort of redundant to keep listing English • The Gathering • for each one of the sub-sections. We know it's english since it's in the english section and we know it's the Gathering since it's the TG forum. It would be better to just drop those from each sub-section listing, imho.

wow, I came here to open a topic about this changes!! they are redundant, like DARK1bc sais. I don't agree with the colors separation, because the information the titles sais is repetitive, so, it's bad for the legibility and because of that the page is useless.
I like the new order of the toopics, separated by languajes, but I'll see the way to keep the titles like were before

First of all, I've moved this topic from the 'General' subforum to the 'Forum & Website' subforum, because it's about the forum

Let me explain the changes of this forum.

1. Greek & Dutch language sections now each contain 3 subforums

Because the greek subforum is very crowded, it was difficult to moderate. That's why the moderators of the greek room wanted to split it into 3 parts (subforums): The Gathering, Music, and General.

The same splitting (The Gathering, Music, General) was done for the dutch subforums.

Maybe in future I can do the same plitting for other crowded language rooms like the french and italian.

2. english section: spreading Polls

The english language if the 'standard' language of this forum that's one of the reasons that the english section has more subforums that any of the other language rooms.

Because of this splitting (greek, dutch subforums) there are more subforums on this forum than before. So I had a look to see if it was possible to reduce the number of english subforums a bit.

I decided to spread the topics of the english Polls over the other english subforums. Because polls were opened in the other subforums as well (it was not forbidden to do), so a seperate Polls subforum was a bit needless.

3. Titles of sections and subforums

The dutch and greek sections both have a subforum about The Gathering. The forum software requires that each subforum has a unique name which is not in use elsewhere on the forum. So unfortunately (I agree short titles are more clear) it's not possible to simply name all of them The Gathering. That's why I've add the language in front of it: English • The Gathering, Dutch • The Gathering and Greek • The Gathering.

In past there were 2 seperate english sections: English (The Gathering) [containing subforums about TG] and 'English (other) [containing Music and General]. I've combined these 2 english sections into 1. So there is only 1 english section, and 1 dutch, and 1 greek and 1 for the other language rooms.

Because the English section has more subforums about The Gathering, all the titles of these subforums start with English • The Gathering followed by a specification, like English • The Gathering • These Good People and English • The Gathering • Concerts.

It's not possible to make a part of a title in a different color or bold. So the whole title is written in the same font.

Suggestions for an easier and more clear division and titles are welcome. :)
And I'll open a poll about the number of subforums for the specific language rooms.

I hate the new forum!!! It's not easy at all, and it's very confusing. And why this:

"English • The Gathering • These Good People"

It's strange.... It's ugly

And leave the poll topic how it was. Spreading THE polls THAT is needless. It's a very confusing and a messy forum this way.

I like the forum how it was. Why always these changes. Leave it! :surprised:

I agree it is now a bit more confusing and that there might be some changes again to do...

I think concerning the title, you cannot name a forum in each section the same which is why Martijn chose to insert the language in the titles...

but Martijn is trying to make changes for the good of all of us... Even tho it may not be obvious at first, I think some of your reactions are quite strong! :-|

the new titles are quite ok!

What I REALLY dont like is the spreading of the polls!
Especially the most important title (These Good People)
got overcrowded by these poll items - makes it difficult to find the really interesting threads.

The
[forum]
[chat]
in front of the topics of this subforum are already there for at least one year. So that's not changed recently.

Thanks for your reactions. It's always good to hear your opinions.

I'll think about a return of a separate "Polls" section. I thought spreading the polls reduces the number of subforums in the english section (from 9 to 8 ) a bit. I thought that would be an advance because there are already many subforums. And in the other languages the polls are mixed with other topics as well (no separate "Polls" sebforums there), and there it didn't seem to be a problem.
But if this speading of the polls over the other english subforums causes a lot of confusion and makes the other subforums less clear then that is an important reason to keep a separate "Polls" section.

Nah I think everyone should be able to make a poll even tho he'snot posting in the poll section... but a specific poll section concerning TG is not bad in my opinion...

I'm not against it, it was a real "know-others'-opinions-about-TG" area.

Ok, I understand what you mean. This is the way it is now for the English section...

English • The Gathering • These Good People
English • The Gathering • Concerts
English • The Gathering • Links, Interviews & Pictures
English • The Gathering • Fans & Meetings
English • The Gathering • Trading
English • The Gathering • Forum & Website
English • Music
English • General

This is my suggestion for the English section...

English • The Gathering
English • Concerts
English • Links, Interviews & Pictures
English • Fans & Meetings
English • Trading
English • Forum & Website
English • Music
English • General

Doing it that way will keep a clean uniform graphic design with the other language sections and still keep the forum names unique. :)
