I don't notice performance problems here during most times of the day,
but sometimes it can get *really* slow when I connect past my bed time :)

I have reasonable amounts of experience deploying and optimizing large web
applications and would be more than glad to offer some free help.

How is/are the server(s) for this setup? Have you pin-pointed any
bottlenecks?

I suspect that at least some of the slowness is due to users with slow internet
connections hogging Apache for I/O, leading more Apache children to be spawned,
which can overload the system.

If you're not already, I suggest running an HTTP proxy (preferably nginx or
lighttpd, but another Apache is alright if you have the memory) in front of the
Apache instance that's handling PHP (on the same machine is alright).

This way the proxy will buffer the network I/O to slow clients so the Apache
processes can focus on the heavy-lifting. You can also lower the number of
Apache processes you run since Apache will no longer be network bound if you
have an HTTP proxy.

Apart from some occasional errors (which direct me to the ashosting.nl host) the forum is showing considerable improvements in stability & speed.

I'm finding the forum slow to respond, and sometimes when I connect I find that I'm no longer logged in, even though I've asked the system to remember me.

I have nothing but problems trying to connect to this website, and this is the only site that I have problems with. It's super slow all the time. I just have to open another window and do other things while I'm waiting to read each topic, or post here.

OK, I wanted to be patient and say nothing more on the matter.

But this is ridiculous. I have to wait three minutes to make ONE post, and then I'm not even sure if it posted or if I'm gonna get an error message. I don't know what the problem is, I'm not even an expert on web-sites and servers, but I'm pretty sure when things are THAT screwed up for THAT long, it's serious.

Please PLEASE just let us know if something can be done about this.

The test forum works perfectly, as it has from the beginning. Is that on a different server or am I mistaken?

Well to be honest the test forum ain't that much faster... i think it only is because its database is almost empty thus faster to load. :S
