OK we were told that the search system had been disabled so that it would be easier for the forum's operational problem to be fixed. Now everything seems to be going ok, however, without a search system the forum lies in a primitive state (trying to put it nicely). Would it be possible for the search sytem to be operational again, maybe give it a test period first to see whether or not that will cause any problems?

Next month I want to do one more speed/stability improvement. I can enable the search index now, to test if it doesn't have a negative influence at the speed of the forum, but note that temporarily the search database will contain only new posts (from now on).
Updating the phpBB forum software to the latest version 3 (which was done in august) requires a complete rebuilding (indexing) of all posts. This process might a while. Indexing rate rate will be about 25 posts/second; total number of posts is 343000, so it will take at least 4 hours (longer if server is slower). During that time the forum needs to be locked, otherwise the messages posted during the rebuilding of the search database can not be found via searches. So that's why I want to wait with this duty, untill the speed of the forum is as good as possible.
