Under the assumption that people will be reading this thread for recommendations, I've a ton of material that could fit here. (Some of these I don't remember much because I haven't heard them in a while):

Abandoned Toys (darkwave)
Arcana (another project with Buckethead in it)
Astral Light (ambient)
Ataraxia
Bark Psychosis (post rock, though I wouldn't say it's the accessible kind)
Black Uhuru (reggae)
Brian Eno (ambient/other)
Chroma Key
Cocteau Twins (shoegaze)
Dirty Three (post rock with some bluesy and folk vibes, quite good)
Django Reinhardt (jazz guitarist in the 40s)
Dragan Dautovski Quartet (Macedonian folk; authentic)
Eldad Lidor
Ephemeral Mists
Hiroki Kikuta
Kari Rueslåtten (doesn't count unless you add the "å", blasphemers! :-p)
Koji Kondo (soundtrack)
Labradford
Lacrimosa (the newer stuff at least)
Neil Young (some of his material, like the Prarie Wind)
Nils Petter Molvær
Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio
Othila (at times ambient, at times too rhythmic to be ambient; Very ethnic. Good stuff but extremely obscure)
Penguin Cafe Orchestra (comtemp. classical)
Phil Collins
Philip Glass (soundtrack)
Primitive Radio Gods
Psalteria
Tom Waits

I've discovered Hellsongs about 2 weeks ago and directly feel in love with them!
They are a trio covering hardrock/metal songs in a a very lounge way (piano/keys, acoustic guitar and vocals). The female singer as a voice a particularly appreciate, and songs like Blackened or Run To The Hills in that way are made anew but still are jewels :)

Not a full fledged recommendation yet, but what do you guys think of this band? Dirty Little Rabbits http://www.myspace.com/dirtylittlerabbits. Forgive me if they have been mentioned before.
