Thanx for the link,

the video is pretty nice and it seems to
fit to the music, but what they are singing about in this song?
Is it true, that the femal singer is around 16 years old???

It's about Arolilja, who loves handsome Bendik. The lyrics are in some dialect and I can't get any more out of it. He rides in and out of the woods and some king has something to do with something. :)

I'm sure the love is impossible, why else write a song about it? ;) (It's a traditional known in Norway in various local versions).

She must be 18 now, she was 16 at the time of recording Jygri.

It was stated on their forums a while back that dialect used is a more archaic form a Norwegian.

Inga Litimor though. Damn.

Her official debut album "Spindelsinn" is still my favourite one. I like it much better than "Mesmerized" and "Pilot" because of the folk-influences and the Norwegian lyrics! BTW, if you like Kari Rueslåtten´s voice, you might also enjoy the album "Solrenning" by Anne Vada and Aki Fukakusa, released on the small yet very fine Norwegian label Kirkelig Kulturverksted. "Solrenning" contains traditional Norwegian songs with very Spartan musical arrangements which mostly convey a nearly meditation-like mood. There´s also a really beautiful version of the song "Bendik og Årolilja" on this album. I do understand some Norwegian, but the Norwegian dictionaries I found in libraries haven´t been of much help with this form of Norwegian. :( However, it must be a story similar to Tristan & Isolde, because these names pop up - written in Latin - in the Japanese(!) lyrics-translations in the CD-booklet of "Solrenning".

Gåte´s new album "Iselilja" was released just about two weeks ago and I just love it! (I ordered it from http://www.cdon.com in Sweden.)
My favourite songs so far are "Fredlysning", "Knut liten og Sylvelin", "Sjåaren" (probably one of their most beautiful songs so far) and the final 11-minute-piece "Gjendines bånsull" (I think the melody and the lyrics are from a traditional lullaby). The sound and the atmosphere on this last song remind me of some songs by The Gathering (don´t exactly know which ones, though), but maybe it´s pure coincidence.
I think Gåte and The Gathering would make an excellent touring package!

I agree.

One of my faves off the album is Jomfruva Ingjebør. And I never get enough of tracks like Storås, Springleik and Ola I.

Yes, "Jomfruva Ingjebør" is another great song on the new album. My faves on "Jygri" are "Bendik og Årolilja", "Kara tu omna", "Inga Litimor" and "Margjit Hjuske", and "Litle fuglen" on the bonus-CD. And my fave on their first EP is "Følgje". Actually, there´s no song that I don´t like.

I really love the new album too - and actually I love this song a lot for some reason. It sounds kinda unusual for them in a way, almost very poppish but I really like her voice in this song.

Noticing that you live in the US, how did you get their new album? And how did you get into this band? (Just a bit curious.)
