ehi Have you listened the new single of Royksopp? "what else is there?"
The female voice seems like the Gåte's singer voice...is it right?

No, it´s not Gunnhild Sundli (though she might have some spare time now that Gåte are taking a pause). When googling a bit, you´ll find several hits stating that the vocals on this song stem from a guest-vocalist named Karin Dreijer.

wow, all you gåte fan have to come to storås, at the storåsfestival. Sveinung from gåte started that festival and it is really great and so cool and so norwegian. The festival is out in the woods not far from where I live...and, you have to come and see for yourselves almost:)

this is the festivals homepage, I think it is only in norwegian though...but there are pictures, and a picture says more than a thousand words...

I too listened to a song I downloaded. It's good. I really like it. They're really young :o.

Her singing reminds me of Shakira, no?

When they recorded their very first EP which was released in 2000 (and which is highly sought after, because it was - as I understand - only issued in a very limited quantity), vocalist Gunnhild was just 14 years old, I think.

I don´t think she sounds like Shakira, but if that´s your impression, so be it.

Too bad they are taking a break, because Gunnhild wants to try something different (e.g. she will take part in an opera next year), but based on the final concerts they are going to play at the end of this year, they will release a live-DVD next year and I think also a live-CD. Judging by their concert in Cologne in August this year, this will be really something to look forward to!

On April 3rd, Gåte will release their live-album "Liva" in Norway. People outside Norway in EU-countries can order their album from http://www.cdon.com . Enter the website via the EU-flag, type in "Gåte" and you´ll already find "Liva" among the other Gåte-CDs.

The album contains the following songs:

01: Knut liten og Sylvelin
02: Kjærleik
03: Følgje
04: Venelite
05: Du som er ung
06: Stengd dør
07: Liti Kjersti
08: Fredlysning
09: Bendik og Årolilja
10: Margit Hjukse
11: Sjå attende

Great track-list, containing 4 of my absolute Gåte-faves: "Knut liten og Sylvelin", "Følgje", "Du som er ung" and "Margit Hjukse". :D

Somewhere later this year, there will also be a live-DVD - I´m really looking forward to that one!

np: Mari Boine - "vuolgge mu mielde bassivárrái" (live)

I just ordered 3 Gåte cds and 2 by Paatos from Zailor.no online store for delivery to Houston, TX. I can't wait for more new music. I just wish more Scandinavian/European bands had US distribution.

Did you already check the website of North Side? Lots of Scandinavian folk (-influenced) bands/artists, unfortunately Gåte aren´t among them yet.

BTW, currently there´s a TV-spot for Gåte´s new album "Liva" on http://warnermusic.no (it´s on the right side in the TV-spot-section, just click on the title "Liva"). All non-Norwegians who have always wondered how the band´s name is to be pronounced properly, should watch this clip.

Thanks for the tip, and after listening to the clip at Warnermusic.no, I am more than ever looking forward to the getting the cd.

Even though the question wasn´t addressed at me, I hope you don´t mind me answering it. The answer is already in the quote: http://zailor.no . However, it seems that charges for postage and packaging to the States and the UK are very high. Since you are from the UK, it might be cheaper to order from http://www.cdon.com . (They don´t charge more than €3.95 per order.)

Just in case someone who hasn´t heard anything by this band so far would like to know what they sound like:

In addition to the two video-clips (one for downloading, one for streaming) on their official website, Gåte have now 4 songs available for downloading on their myspace-page, namely here.

Someone at the Gåte-forum just posted a link to a live-video of "Sjåaren" filmed at one of the very last Gåte-concerts at the end of last year.

It´s here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuA7WB2eGZE

It´s a full-length video, but the picture- and sound-quality is very poor. Still it makes me look foward even more to the official live-DVD to be released in August (with a better sound- and picture-quality, of course)! :D

np: The Gathering - "Home"

Cheers!

I bought 3 Gåte (and 2 Paatos) cds from the http://www.zailor.no online music store. They ain't cheap, but They seemed to be the only place that would ship to the US.

p.s. I love my Gåte music! I hope this 'break' that the band is taking is not permanent.

Cheers broadsword!

I probably should've read the rest of this thread, since it seems people have already linked to sites where you can buy their stuff
