It's good. Very good actually. Better than The Dreadful Hours (no pun intended) and Light At The End...

"see the light.........................."

I really expect the best for "Songs of darkness..."

I was a bit disappointed by "the Dreadful Hours"... except some good songs, i found it a bit boring and less joyful than "Light at the end of the World".

.......and feel my warm desire".

A really great album.
I have only heard it twice now, but maybe it even surpasses "Turn loose..."

Bit disappointed with it myself but it's early days. But the new Anathema one which seemed to get cracking reviews was also a bit lame to me.

Yes, he growls. But he also speaks quite a lot.

At the beginning, Aaron's familiar themes are vocalised yet again, and you might think that this will just be more of the same, but ...

This album is much better than The Dreadful Hours. Tracks such as "Catherine Blake" and "My Wine In Silence" will come to haunt you. In my opinion, they're haunting because the songs are more accessible, more "normal", than some of the band's past material, but filled with the same darkness. Very beguiling.

I also think there's evidence to suggest that MDB have been listening to some of the competition, including Opeth.

"My Dying Bride still unveil gloomy and dramatic canvas ..." .

"Songs of Darkness" is certainly not my favourite album ....
nevertheless, I like it much.

"The Scarlett garden", "Catherine Blake", "My Wine in Silence" "The Prize of Beauty" and "the Blue Lotus" are efficient tracks... and keep on thrilling me.

That 's it! :green:

i bought it this week; and actually was surprised by it.. the last good album IMHO was 34.778% (i really like the whole evolution they made from turn loose.. up to 34.778%)
so far i think track #4 is the one i like best.. it's got something extra
