If you like those guys, AND you like Monty Python's Flying Circus, you might like to check out 1978's The Rutles. Eric Idle and Neil Innes's genius spoof of the world's favourite band. Available on CD and DVD, it's very funny, and the the music is actually better than Beatles, even though it wouldn't exist without them.

I stayed up very late watching The Rutles on Sky just the other night. An excellent parody. I was a real Beatles fan (in what now feels like a former life) up to the point at which I began to realise what a %$&£! McCartney is.

I think the Beatles are a bunch of totaly overrated miserable musicians, whose only "invention" was the mass media hype brought with them. Sorry, that´s my oppinion.

Yes, there was plenty of hype (not to mention hysteria). But you have to set this into context: in the UK, they were amongst the first, unless you want to count ever-present Cliff Richard or the 1950s skiffle groups. Of course it all got out of proportion - but then what about the Elvis thing?

Going back to the Big Debate of the day, the Rolling Stones were much more interesting - up to the point at which Brian Jones drifted off into the sunset.

Well I am no big fan of them for sure...
If they had never existed, the pop music would definitely be different nowadays...
Most of the songs I like of the Beatles were not written by Lennon tho.. Harrison had my vote [just for Within You Without You he deserves it :)]
