I have to say I'm not very familiar with Tori Amos' works but I absolutely LOVE the Waitress live! I dunnno where it's taken from but you could listen to it on the disco page about Under the Pink (which is a nice album BTW :))

I fell in love with Under the pink when i was twelve and i´ve been watching Tori´s work since then. It´s true, that the studio albums are something absolutely different than live recordings or concerts....there the songs are alive and it´s known. :D

Though I´ve got all of Tori´s studio albums and quite a lot of her maxi-singles (because of the numerous non-album tracks on them), I´ve always liked Tori live much better. Therefore my favourite album is a bootleg titled "Saint And Sinner" (from her concert in Berlin in March 1996) - it´s comparable to her official live-video "Live From NY" (which I also like very much), because it was just her and guitarist Steve Caton. I really enjoy the live versions of "Little Amsterdam" and "In The Springtime Of His Voodoo" compared to the studio versions, which didn´t do much for me. On "Saint And Sinner", you also get to hear (among others) "American Pie" followed by "Smells Like Teen Spirit", a completely different version of "Bells For Her" and a great version of "Father Lucifer" including excerpts of Mike Oldfield´s "Tubular Bells" and Bronski Beat´s "Smalltown Boy".

@Burn: The live version of "The Waitress" you are referring to is probably from the "still orbiting" live-CD of her double album "To Venus And Back". I also like that version very much and definitely better than the studio version on "Under The Pink"!

@CherryBlossomGirl: It seems that at least 2/3 of Within Temptation are Tori Amos fans, because in an article in a German metal magazine 4 members recently mentioned her when being asked about their favourite music.

I like Saint & sinner too, but i like Radio Spark better, ´cause of the wonderfull version of "Black dove" on it. And i like the video from show in NY too, i think is much better than "Welcome to the sunny Florida" DVD.

I definitely agree! My impression is that the combination with Steve Caton allowed Tori to improvise more than the combination with the rhythm section (bass + drums) does. Another artist whom I like live much better than on her studio albums, because she resp. her band improvise a lot (or at least play songs differently), is Mari Boine from Norway.

I remember the excerpt from Mari´s concert in Czech rep. few years ago. It was nice, but i didn´t hear her album yet. My favorite live performer was Jeff Buckley.

In think the Waitress live comes from To Venus and Back disc 2, the live CD.

Here you can download as many Tori Amos live songs as you like

http://www.hereinmyhead.com/sounds/index.html

I think Operation Peter Pan is a very cute short song... and Pretty Good Year from Boulder 1996 (in the BFP section) as well as the Cure's Lovesong on the harpsichord (BFP)...and and...

You know, I like tori Amos very much, seen her live twice (although it was damn expensive) and the best thing about her is, that even if you have her albums there are still tons of covers she made that you can discover.

My favorite covers from Tori Amos: Landslide (!!), Smells like teen spirit (ok, everyone knows that), Somewhere over the rainbow (!), butterfly/sister janet, i don't like mondays, love song.

Love a lot of her songs too of course, but it's to hard to select some of em :D

Damn all you lucky ones who have seen her live performances :) I hope she'll come to Finland someday. Or at least to somewhere near this godforsaken country ;)

Anyhow, here's my list of favorite Tori songs (in no particular order):

Flying Dutchman (ok, this is probably the dearest one), Sugar, Concertina, Jackie's Strength, Hey Jupiter, Precious Things, Winter, Past the Mission, Ode to The Banana King, Upside Down, Take to the Sky

np: A Case of You

Agree. I love that album too. That was the first one I heard.
I keep on hoping she'll come to Mexico one day... and she gets lost here like China: from New York to Mex :green: (or wherever she is on the tour).

Spark is one of my big time favourites. This last album, The Beekeeper is just beautiful.. can't wait for the next one.

The first I heard was Little Earthquakes which I also really love, but I think From The Choirgirl Hotel has that extra little something, which makes it my favourite. I'd love to see her live!

Oh, I couldn't agree with you more! All together: Tori to Finland! Tori to Finland!

My favourite album is probably Little Earthquakes, but I think they're all great and, thank goodness, different.
