Anybody bought this yet???
Allright I've been listening to this Cd for weeks now and I think it's just f'n brilliant from start to finish.
It rocks, and it's catchy as hell, and Gavin's voice to me sounds more developed and very powerful.
This is one of the few bands that deserve as much high praise as the Gathering...
That would be my dream "double bill" tour...

YES!

This is actually my #1 album of the year. "El Cielo" is my all time favorite album, the only album above the Gathering's "Mandylion". Right before CWA's release, I saw dredg two times in Florida, headlining. It was amazing to say the least. And as a matter of fact, they and the Gathering would be my dream 'double bill' tour as well. Also, Hans is a huge fan of the band, and had me buy him a shirt from one of the shows. I believe he went to see them when they came to the Netherlands, or around there, a couple of weeks ago. I hope he had a good time, because I certainly did.

Favorite songs on the album:

Jamais Vu
Planting Seeds
Bug Eyes
Spitshine

The rest of the album is incredible as well.

no problem! Every person got its own taste of music! I like Coheed & Cambria! And the last album of Dredg "El Cielo" is also great stuff!

Amazing album in my opinion. 8) Bought it the day it was released and really haven't been able to stop listening to it. Also my pick at this point for #1 album of 2005.

I did get to see Dredg live for the first time in Washington D.C. this past May, just 5 days before The Gathering in Amsterdam.....definitely an incredible week! :green:

While it seems most longtime Dredg followers prefer El Cielo, I think overall I prefer CWA. To my ears, I don't believe Gavin has ever sounded better. To echo the sentiments Jeffs wrote, I also believe Gavin sounds more developed....a bit more comfortable and confident.

I can't really pick a favorite song....basically to me 8 of the 12 songs are masterpieces.
"Spitshine"....just a hair below those 8, still an amazing song. "Hung over on a Tuesday"....a good decent track I think.
The 2 songs I DON'T really like are "Zebraskin" & "The Tanbark is Hot Lava"....I don't know, they just don't appeal to me. I usually skip from Not that Simple to Sang real on my CD player.

At any rate, definitely a must have album in my book.

I heard this album yesterday and I didn't hear anything from the band before. But when I heard it I was so happy, very cool album indeed. :D

Well,

I liked the CD. But there are some songs that i really don't like at all... Starting with the title track and zebraskin... They seem kinda weak to me... And a couple more. Besides, I think many songs fell into the radio-friendly category.

But songs like Ode to the sun, Bug eyes, Hungover on a tuesday, Tanbark are great!

This is a good CD, maybe it's just me, but coming from Dredg I was expecting a lot more... Solid album nevertheless... But not better than El Cielo.

Just my 2 cents.

yeah, whenever a song is shorter than 7 min. or happens to be disgustingly catchy makes me wanna puke too

Well, no...

You see, The Canyon Behind Her is under 7 min and extremely catchy... I think that song rules! However I don't see TCBH being played in the radios (or at least here in Mexico, I might be wrong about some other places). On the contrary, Zebra Skin (and some 3 other songs) bores me to death, so I always skip it... That didn't happen to me with "El Cielo", which i listened from start to end without skipping one single song.
Just my opinion. I'm glad you liked the CD. :P

pistone: Awesome pic! <3 Gavin <3

in_motion: You're completely entitled to your opinion, but I dont think catchiness makes a song bad... Hell, nearly every Gathering song is beyond Catchy; You Learn About It is more 'radio friendly' than anything dredg have or ever will produce. I guess I just take the music on the new album for what it is, not how much it could be played on the radio, or how different it sounds from El Cielo. Sure, it's nowhere near as good as El Cielo, but it's still miles better than most of the garbage being released by bands on major record lables like Interscope, the one dredg is on.

Yeah!
I know! You pretty much summed what i've been saying... I don't think a song is bad because it is catchy, I think it's bad because it's boring... "The Canyon Behind Her", "Ode to the Sun" are catchy and amazing songs... But "Zebra Skin" and "Catch Without Arms" are boring in my opinion.
For me, 50% of the CD is great and the other 50% is just ok...

BTW... I don't like "You Learn About It" at all... Not because it's catchy, but because it bores me... But I think Souvenirs is great!

Well, I think I see where you're going. The Canyon Behind Her and Ode To The Sun are two of dredg's most complex songs, and a lot is happening within them. You seem to be the type of person that isnt very interested in a song unless there's a lot going on; Catch Without Arms and Zebra Skin dont have a lot going on, and I admit, they're two of my least favorite songs on the new album. But they certainly dont bore me, just as You Learn About It doesnt bore me either. Some people need a bunch of stuff going on within their music, and some people dont mind simplicity. All is well.

Btw, The Canyon Behind Her is my all time favorite song.

Well, you might be right... Although I do have a less complex side (i love Broken Glass, piano version, for example).

But yeah, in general I agree, give me Dream Theater or Pain of Salvation over The Killers or The Strokes anytime.

And yes, The Canyon Behind Her is amazing! Not my all time favorite song, but definitely it is in my top 20.

Cheers!

I think anyone with a brain would take Dream Theater and PoS over that garbage.
