I would recommend Beirut. The vocalist is from California but I think he and his band are based in France. Their songs are extraordinarily beautiful. They've performed on Jools Holland too if I'm not mistaken.

Hey Clobyn,

If you're into heavy music but starting to really like softer stuff, then I would check out this US band, Sententia. They're really neat. When I first heard them, I thought Radiohead meets The Gathering. It's pretty catchy stuff but it's also on the prog/post-metal side of things too. It's very emotional and gothic sounding, not bad at all.

The 3rd and the Mortal, from Norway.
When Nightwish started out, they were influenced by them, and the Gathering, mainly.
I would describe it as TG meets movie soundtrack music. It is really quiet and peaceful, that's the movie soundtrack side of it, if you know what I mean.

Their 1994 album Tears Laid in Earth is really, really good. It's only hard to download, and it'll be almost impossible to buy it. I would surely recommend it especially when you like the softer side of TG.

Especially the beginning of this song is heavy for 3rd and the Mortal terms:

I will recommend you Aerosmith and Guns N' Roses. Both bands are really awesome. You will definitely enjoy it...
