And here we are on a forum for a female-fronted band ... But, yes, it's all been horribly overdone now. We've had male vocals; we've had female vocals. What next? Canine? Feline? Equine? :tw:

but I dont see the Gathering as a "female-fronted" band... it's just a band. I mean all this distinction... who cares..
look at stratovairus (no I didnt mispelt it ;)) they used to have a guy behind th emic now it's a girl... did it change something to the music?? not really...
Women are as able as men to make good music... it's just a question of how good musician/writter everyone is...

I had never heard of that, so I looked it up and apparently that was just for a very brief period when the band was melting down in 2004. I had no idea about the bizarre history of that band when I checked out their show in 2005.

nice to see Theatre of Tragedy back with a fantastic new single called "Deadland." I'm really looking forward to their new record this month.

I've got no idea about the new album. It's entitled "Y" and it wasn't released yet when I was in Spain.

Already heard some previous albums from her but Y. is the one I wanna get (including Me Fui song)

There are plenty of great songs I heard on spanish radios among David Guetta, Madonna and others... but Bebe's Me fui song is the only one i found out.

Solrenning by Anne Vada/Aki Fukakusa is the best CD that I had never heard until one day I happened to buy it in 1999.

To me this album is so perfect that I don't want to buy and don't want to hear any CDs else. although I understand nothing from what she is singing.

This album includes 12 songs as follows:

01. Den Dag Kjem Aldri At Eg Deg Gløymer

02.Solfager Og Ormekongen

03.Akk, Mon Min Vei Til Kanaan

04. Jeg Lagde Meg Så Silde

05.Den Fyrste Song

06.Bendik Og Årolilja

07.Om Kvelden

08. Listen

09. Vi Skal Ikkje Sove Burt Sumarnatta

10. Då Eg Va Liti

11. Jeg Råde Vil Alle

12. Å Her Møter Mangt

Try to listen at: http://www.emusic.com/album/Anne-Vada-A ... 85218.html

Does anyone speak Norwegian on this forum that help me know what these songs are meaning in English?

Thank a lot!

That's a funny coincidence, because I also bought my copy in 1999.

The Norwegian singer Rita Eriksen has also recorded a great version of this song, which is to be found on the album "Tideland", which she recorded together with the Irish singer Dolores Keane.

06.Bendik Og Årolilja

The Norwegian folk rock band Gåte also recorded a version of this song and I think it was their first big hit in Norway. Here's the promo-video of their version (which sounds very different from Anne Vada's version):

The title is actually "Lite bane", which means "little child".

While I do understand some Norwegian, I'd say these lyrics - which are written in Nynorsk (or dialects related to it) - are quite difficult to translate, well, at least parts of them, and I simply don't have the time to do so. If the Gåte-forum still existed, I could have pointed you at least to the translation of "Bendik & Årolilja", but after the band split up 5 years ago (btw, there will be four - allegedly - final concerts in Norway this summer), their forum was also closed a bit later.

Edit: I've just noticed that the first comment below the videoclip I've linked above gives a summary in English of what the lyrics of "Bendik & Årolilja" are about. However, I should mention that the lyrics of Gåte's version are different from Anne Vada's except of the first verse and the chorus. The reason is that there are often many different versions of these medieval ballads. If you check this directory of Norwegian ballads

http://www.dokpro.uio.no/ballader/liste ... itler.html

you will e.g. notice that it contains 48 (!) versions of "Bendik & Årolilja". In addition to this, the original ballads are usually much longer than the songs being recorded on the albums, which are just excerpts. E.g. the second version of "Bendik & Årolilja" you find in this directory contains 49 verses.

I don't know. Granted, there was this http://www.metalstorm.net/pub/article.p ... cle_id=670 wherein is cited "Metal Female Voices Festival VII" @ Wieze, Belgium for last year. Metal female voices? O.K. I'd rather much see an advertisement like "Femme Metale" to tell ya the truth; pronounced along the same lines as 'femme fatale' but with the obviously added pronunciation difference/significance. Or, "Femmes Metales" pronunced the same as 'femmes fatales,' again, etc., if that's explicable enough for you all. Sounds more exotic, less contrived, at least to me. Some people over on youtube.com state in the commentary section sometimes even that chicks shouldn't be in metal to begin with; to me, that's like saying vocalists like Anita O'Day, June Valli, June Christy, Chris Connor, etc., shouldn't have been in front of Stan Kenton's orchestra either.
