@ kernel....to answer your question, no I don't know Persian language. Until recently, I did work with a very nice Persian girl (and her brother for a little while also) She showed me some Farsi. Some writing, the alphabet etc....but I don't know how to speak any. I would've liked to have learned some phrases at least.

You should learn a little because some of the persian singers have great lyrics.Or you can tell that girl to translate their lyrics for you.

enjoy them

The good thing is that the CD-booklets of the two latest double-CDs by Parissa & Ensemble Dastan - "Shoorideh" and "Gol-e Behesht" - both contain translations of the lyrics in German, French and English! Furthermore, they also contain background information about the music and the musicians, also in German, French and English, so you really get a lot of information + two hours of great music!

A few years ago, when they aired a concert of Mahsa Vahdat and the female ensemble Hamnawa on the German radio station WDR 3, the ones who led through the programme also gave some translations of some of the lyrics and yes, they were indeed beautiful - often quite melancholic. As far as I understand, the lyrics used in classical Persian music are usually poems by famous classical Persian poets. (At least that´s the case on the two CDs by Parissa I just mentioned.)

np: Kari Bremnes - "Sommerkjoledyr"

Is anyone into electronic music? Trance, Jungle, Rave, Breakbeat, Techno, IDM... Anyone?

Orbital, Daft Punk, Underworld, Royksopp, DJ Shadow, Prodigy, Goldie, Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Mu-ziq, Infected Mushroom... ?

I'm now in my Shoegazer phase, so I'm into lo-fi-ambient-dream-noise-rock like The Verve, Ride, MBV, Slowdive, Lush and stuff.

I am, but there's not so many decent new "electronica/dance" style musics coming out at the moment in my opinion. Maybe you could recommend some? I have everything by everyone you mentioned above except for Infected Mushroom. Dunno them, is that a band or label?

It's an Israeli Psytrance band that has made some very peculiar and colourful Trance. In Israel only avid Trance haters don't like them.
And their debut album is called...

I love electronic music like Trip Hop, Glitch or Big Beat, but I'm also very fond of Jazz, Reggae and Rock/Progressive Rock. A lot of people think my taste in music is very weird, but the people who say these things don't really have any taste themselves. Taste in general is terribly underrated.
