Opeth's DVD...

Well I've heard a lot of good about Opeth's DVD but as I'm not a huge fan of live video [I prefer kinda homevideo/documentary stuffs], I wanted to check out a bit the thing before...
I've downloaded Deliverance in divx and well, I'm feeling disappointed...
Sound is really nice but I do feel there is a big problem with the editing... It's too clip-esque I'd say.. Like lot of short shots and no time to see...

I know it's only 12 min of a 2hours gigs but I wanted to know if all the heavy songs were like that or not...
Further, I dunno if it's the DVD or the divx encoding but it seems it's lacking of light sometimes... the main things to see on some shots are too much in the dark...

Then I wanted to know what you thought of it, not about its content but about its images/sounds' quality.

I think it's a good liveregistration in the which the editing didn't strike me as being hectic or too dark. Lighting seems almost clinical if anything. There's a one-hour documentary/interview on it too.

well it's not that the editing disturbed me... It's more the chosen shots.. I mean soemtimes u have a cam that moves in all sense creating no effect at all.. it last for 2 sec only and then you go for another shot with a movement completely not related to the previous one...

In fact, generally I have the feeling too many ppl think "we have to get our own DVD"... But they forgot to think that hmmm the technical quality of the DVD doesn't make the quality of the contents...
[I don't say that about Opeth's DVD as I've only seen 12 min]

The gig's good, as is the video, but i expected so many more extras..! It's not like they couldn't have found anything else, is it? Very disappointing on that score, imo..

Yep. Per Wiberg of the Spiritual Beggars if I recall correctly.

you might think that but actually what I've seen is something that didn't please me and I'm just explaining why I don't like it...
if you do like a song that the atrist plays wonderfully on that eve but that it's badly recorded, you can feel frustrated! And don't blame the atrist who gave his/her best... Then indeed it's about technical stuffs...

If the technical part isn't good, it's disturbing me somehow...

the thing is, you always talk about the technical side of things, and never the atristic side.

I'm also a happy owner of the Opeth live DVD and I can say just one thing: briliant! I'm glad that they put the 'mellow' side of Damnation and the more heavy stuff of 'the good ol' days' on there. So we have the best of both worlds.
The only negative part I have noticed is watching to many times in (the not so clean) nose of Mikael Akerfeldt.

great dvd.

as for it´s cut being too confusing: try watching the muse dvd, the editor must have been a horny rabbit on lsd or something. :) after that the editing of the opeth dvd is calm as can be.

off topic: i still hate opeth for not playing a single grunt-song on their vienna gig (although i never thought i would get to see "to bid you farewell" live). dont get me wrong, it was great, but as i went out i felt like having had sex without having an orgasm :P

New Opeth stuff on its way

You know there are only some metal bands whose materials I'm really waiting for. Now mentioning Opeth and Nevermore of course in the first line. And the Opeth Factories work!!

I found an article on the net which made me very happy (although I knew this funny Swedish guys are working but now we have details yess :D
The article itself:

"A radio-broadcast-quality recording of OPETH's new track, entitled "The Grand Conjuration", has been posted online in MP3 format at this location (length - 9:55; size - 22.71 MB; quality – 320 kbps).

"The Grand Conjuration" comes off the Swedish band's upcoming album, "Ghost Reveries", due late August/early September through Roadrunner Records.

"Ghost Reveries" was mastered on June 16 at the Cutting Room facilities in Stockholm and will feature a running time of 65 minutes. The full track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Ghost of Perdition
02. The Baying of the Hounds
03. Beneath the Mire
04. Atonement
05. Reverie/Harlequin Forest
06. Hours of Wealth
07. The Grand Conjuration
08. Isolation Years"

The song what's mentioned can be downloaded from here:
http://www.firecoker.com/music/Opeth%20 ... ius%29.mp3

Not bad  Although as I hear it has new style elements too (not only mentioning Peer's synth which is also a newcomer thing...)
Opinions?
