1) Pearl Jam
2) The Gathering
3) ?

so now, here we are.

after 12 years, The Gathering is not my favourite band anymore.

It has nothing to do at all with Anneke departure and so on...

I just enjoy PJ music more than TG one today and for several months now..
I knew Eddie and Co far before TG too.

First, thought it was only nostalgy... but actually, it is not.

I don't pretend anything ... my PJ collection was a sign anyway: more than 150 official CDs, three dozen of vinyls, Tshirts (from ten era til now), books, goodies....

a PJ dope addict (back again?)

Difficult. My top 3 tends to change every week or so, but the bands that most often keep their top 3 position are Ulver, The Gathering and Moonsorrow.

1 The Gathering since end of 1999
2 Pearl Jam since 11 years (end of 1996) :P
3 Smashing Pumpkins since 1997 and Björk (many bands in fact... )

That's tough..

1.) Tool (while I don't listen to 'em too much anymore, they were what inspired me to broaden my horizons)
2.) The Gathering (my most recent obsession, after reading about the West Pole.. very overlooked, if you ask me, especially here in the US)
3.) Asyndess (an obscure and defunct black metal 'band' with industrial influences. If you think black metal is all 16th notes with amateurish keyboard playing slopped on top, this will blow your mind)

It's actually a very close top 5

1. The Gathering
2. Anathema
3. Katatonia
4. The 3rd and the Mortal
5. Ulver

:)

It changes all the time...
but I guess TG, NIN, Ladytron and Ulver would always be on some step of the podium...

Hmmm.... well, I've wracked my brain and I guess this will have to do

1.) Samael/Beherit
both bands display (or, in Samael's case, have displayed) heavyness, minimalism and such astounding levels of restraint and atmosphere that I find their works to be examples of what musicians (regardless of what kind of music they may make) should strive for. Favorite works being Worship Him (Samael) and Drawing Down the Moon (Beherit). Unfortunatly, all material released by Samael after Passage has been complete and total garbage including their recent bullshit "return to roots" effort Above.

2.) Burzum
yes yes, I know. The man is a despicable murderer and racist and... whatever the hell else he is these days, but his music is the best traditional black metal I've ever heard.

3.) Amebix
the best crust punk band on the planet. Who knew such a dirty form of music could be so damn emotionally charged? And they even have a romantic (not in the "pertaining to love" way) element to their lyrics.

I thre in Amebix because I have spent plenty of time listening to them in the last few weeks. Doesn't really mean they are my official 3rd favorite band.

I really do enjoy The Gathering, but they're not in my top 3. maybe top 10, not top 3.

1. Pink Floyd (I don't think that will ever change)
2. Riverside (Surprise, over the last few month I've grown to like this band also they have long way to go on development side)
3. The Gathering (Distant third. I like really older stuff (between Mandylion and Souvenirs), newer one doesn't touch me that much)

On "it keeps changing all the time", bear in mind that I have almost 50 years of listening experience to draw on! So, ...

1. Jimi Hendrix (without whom the guitar might still just be going "twang").
2. King Crimson (not all equally good, but ... :D ).
3. Miles Davis (without whom there wouldn't have been jazz/rock fusion, Weather Report and possibly a whole strand of development of modern jazz and those influenced by it).

So that's just three out of hundreds. Tiny Tim and his ukelele are at number 503,872.
