I don't listen to soundtrack much, only few. Right now I'm most fond of these two soundtracks:

Band of Brothers (composed by Michael Kamen)
LOST (composed by Michael Giacchino)

I like them because you don't really pay attention to the music when you watch the episodes so now there's an own mood in the soundtracks which you can enjoy without thinking all the time about the film. That's the problem with the soundtracks for The Lord of the Rings. They depend a bit too much on the film.

I would like to find the soundtrack to the BBC television series THE LAKES. The show has absolutely great music! I saw the soundtrack once some years ago but now I haven't been able to find it anymore :(.

the Lakes is an old TV show... like ten year old i think. so currently it may be difficult (but not impossible ^) to find the soundtrack. as far as i'm concerned, i've never seen the CD.

good luck!

ps: really love soundtracks... both focusing on pictures, words and music while watching a movie for the first time. each track being associated to a special scene... feeding the atmosphere too. So, it's not just and only background music to me
there are some movies for which soundtrack is essential to enjoy them and sometimes more as i could expect.

Thanks. You're right, it's about 10 years old TV show. I bought it on DVD a while ago and have been watching it again lately.

I know the soundtrack is always carefully chosen or composed to match the film but I'm not very good to understand their meaning (apart from love themes or fighting scenes). I should try to pay more attention to the music... Anyway I only listen to soundtrack cd's to films or tv shows that I like, you know there might be great music in films that otherwise suck ;).

or maybe you just should not.

same here. agree too.

but there are some exceptions to me . for example, i havent seen "Zidane - 21st century portrait" movie or "Whale Rider" yet ... already admiring such artists as Mogwai or Lisa Gerrard, i didnt have to hesitate about listening to their works and enjoying them (separately from each movie).

on the other hand, there are some movies which i dont like (or anymore), that allowed me to discover good soundtracks or bands (for example "Braveheart" or Metric band in "Clean")

oh, well, this conversation will never end ... lol

Now I remembered one exception to me too. I like Björk so I listened to the soundtrack Drawing Restraint 9 which she composed. It was a bit odd :o so I decided to leave it until I see the film. Then I think again :)

I am hooked to The Fountain OST by Clint Mansell these two or three weeks. Even better that Requiem For A Dream OST by the same artist. Highly recommended. Wow.

I just listened to 28 Weeks Later soundtrack. It's amazing!!
The movie was promoted on trailers without its original music. I remember watching the trailer with Muse's Shrinking Universe, and I thought they would be part of the soundtrack. Watch it here :green:

Image

When we went to see it, we stayed until the final credits appeared to see about the music, because it was great! We realized there was original music from John Murphy . Highly recomended album! Beautiful post rock.

Thanks to Faridee for it! Even thought she was squishing my arm during the whole film, haha

La Vie Rêvée des Anges ("Rue des Cascades" 1 title promo song - film version)

Image

This soundtrack song is composed by Yann Tiersen. You can hear it at the end of the great and sad "La Vie Rêvée des Anges" movie. Played with piano, violin, clavecin, accordion and sung by Claire Pichet, this piece is an emotionnal whirlwind to me. Each time I listen to "Rue des Cascades" track, I keep in mind this nice message from the movie, saying that no matter how bad things can happen to you, you still have this wonderful chance to be alive. And no matter how bad you could live, you are still living anyway.
Just for this message, It is my one of my all time favourite songs.

another one...

Music for Egon Schiele

Image

"This record is the soundtrack to a live theater production that was put on in Chicago by the Itinerant Theater Guild last spring, composed by Rachel Grimes and played live with two other musicians during the run of the performances.

Unlike the first record, (which featured 16 musicians from all walks of life including the bands Shellac, Coctails, Rodan, Hula Hoop, and members of two symphony orchestras), Music for Egon Schiele is pared down to three players, Rachel on piano, Christian Frederickson on viola, and Wendy Doyle on cello."
