Today i bought the new cd of ADA In Your Room. And i really dont like it. Its schoolgirls popsongs. I dont hear any melodic sensitive song, no nice vocals, nothing like it. I am wondering what you people think of this? How can someone with such a beautiful voice sing just like a schoolgirl.
Only the last two songs are better but they arent written by Anneke. And theres one cover song on the album nr 7, but its not even said in the book. (supertramp).
I think AIR was pretty cool with songs like ice water and lost and found. But now i dont understand why she makes this music and likes it? What did she do all those years with The Gathering if she just want to make stupid three minute songs. 12 songs in 42 minutes!
It really is fucked up because now i dont like to go to her shows anymore and ive seen her over a 50 times....and she is the best singer in the world....

I had a go at it yesterday in a shop. and listening to it briefly. What I feel after this listening is that the production is very neat, the arrangements are well done...
Anneke still has her voice... and well, no need to say anything about it, it's good... But it all seems to easy... if I'd buy this album I'd listen to it a couple of time before to put it on a shelve and forget it...
This is musically not my cup of tea... and I didnt dig too much on the lyrics.. but if everything is as light as hey okay, I dont have too...

Burn is right. Production is neat but that is just about it. What a waste of talent.

I don't find the production to be that great either....
I mean, yeah.. Overall it's neat. But the asthetics of the albums is awful: the 80's keyboard sound drives my crazy...

You know, when she split from TG I was expecting lot more from her. Listening all those collaborations with Yoav Goren (Globus) and Wetton-Downes (ex Asia) I felt
that there was something there. I thought that over the years she got lots of good ideas and that now is the time to bring them to life. It's been few years now and
unfortunately in my opinion what I heard so far is absolute rubbish.

Thanks for sharing my feelings about the album. I want really sucks! to do do do to do do do ...
I really hate happy music! haha its indeed a waste of talent. She uses her voice only in a careful way, not using her emotions.

Now go and find tracks from the Devin Townsend Project's new album Addicted (they're all out there on YouTube) and listen to Anneke's work on that album.

Took me a couple of listenings but now I think In Your Room is a great album. Great production, great 80's sound, great songs. A happy album that makes me happy. She will probably loose some old fans, but its very brave to keep developping instead of cashing in on the same formula.

I am fine with that! :)
I mean, Anneke should do what she feels like doing, she doesn't owe us (old fans) anything. The Gathering always changed as well and most of us loved the changes from album to album... Some of us even started liking them more after they developed their sound...

And I don't have a problem with happy, pop or simple music either.. I can think of many artists that are either pop, happy or simple that I love!

But overall I find the album to be very uninspired, that's all.

I doubt it that she was really cashing!! :)

Developing artisticly AWAY from her past work with TG and whether TG fans like it or not, that's a good thing. It's also beginning to show, the audience is changing (growing) and needs this development to make AdA a brand new name in the Dutch musical landscape, not just Anneke's 'own' project.
I think AdA is close now to take off. It just might with Hey Okay and who's sais it wouldn't be well deserved?

It's obvious that Anneke is happy with what she is doing right now.

If Anneke is happy with it,i'm happy for her. Most of us(gathering fans) are supporting her(like we do with all gathering and ex-gathering members).
I like the first album and maybe when i hear the second one i will change my mind but this hey ok song..not my cup of...beer :green:
I just believe that she deserves more than that.

I dont know if Ada is growing (dont know what's happening in holland) but it seems like it's going to be her project in the future. That's what i understand when i see Anneke Van Giersbergen & ADA on the cover.

Point taken, she used the double name probably for commercial reasons. Smart choice if she's had nr1 hit with the Tibet song.
You might prefer to give In Parallel a listening instead of In Your Room.
