It's a pity Anneke and AdA music is still available in metal albums because their music has no connection at all with it now.

the new album is ok...soft... not orginal but not bad.
I would say it requires some peaceful mood to get into the music. If you're depressive, looking for spleen feelings, just avoid it. Metal and pure TG listeners will laugh at it for sure. If you are musically opened, take your chance cause you can appreciate this album without any problem. I think it's better than Air

Just heard a couple of songs and I foound 'em really borig. As someone already said, classic 3 min poppy song with the classic verse-choris structure... but well, I'll try to listen to the whole album this weekend.

At 'least' this one is not an accoustic album...

Something i regret here and i find really boring myself is some people who are supposed to be music lover dare to say that anything that sounds poppy and classic is boring. So narrow minded... How come they are music lover? They don't know that Happiness rules in music and it is also part of emotion. Moreover, complexity is not a nirvana. Complexity can be totally hermetic and restrictive.. Boring too.. Such like some complex people in your daily life.

But hey, nevermind.

You can be a music lover but not be into poppy stuffs... like you can appreciate paintings but not be touched by certain currents... I dont dislike this new album, I find it more consistent than Air... but well I dont like it either... it just doesnt awake my curiosity further...

Well, the painting argue doesn't work me. As a art painting lover, I love all currents. Sorry. from the contemporary currents to the abstraction.
I'm just real bad for painting surrealism (which is more complex than regular contemporary stuffs) even Cubism or Abstract things. but I'm really touched by these things and I love it. but as I say, i have no talents for these things.

the main speech of this forum (cyclingcolours) is most of the listeners here reject ususally pop music and you can't argue with it.
To them, pop is pejorative, too easy, commercial, boring... like the "vilain petit canard"...and this is ridiculous.
Cause if you listen carefully to TG discography, you can't say it has never been poppy influenced.

But don't dismiss everyone's opinion under that assumption that we all consider pop to be pejorative... I think that most of us are open-minded enough on this board...

It can be that we just don't like it, you know... Regardless of complexity ;)

Overall the album grew on me a little bit, there are a few songs I actually like... But In Your Room is, easily, Anneke's album that I like the least..

I agree with you Lukaz and i respect your taste about in your room like any music album. but when you got to read fro the XX time some Anneke music is boring because it's poppy, that pisses off, when it was said from the all time TG fans.

It's not boring because it's poppy. There is nothing interesting there. Not even a catchy tune.

There is nothing wrong with pop music, just dont like the songs. There isnt a kind of music i dont like at all. There are just good and bad albums

I dont think the album is bad. Is happy, and i also like happy music. I like the rhythm of one or two songs. The lyrics are the worst component of the album. They are really poor.
The lyrics dont say anything and dont make me feel anything.

The new album is a major disappointment. Air was a really good album. This is just barely on the right side of trite.

So, I finally heard the whole album... pfff terrible. I only liked Hey OK, and thats all. All songs were composed over the same formula, boring arregments, very simple lyrics, the now usual Anneke's boring piano songs. 'I want' is one of the worst song I have heard in a long, long time.

Nothing against Anneke, I will always love what she did with my fave all time band, and I still think she has one of the greatest rock voices ever, but, al least for me, HER music is really disapointing.

Cheers

-->Gerardo

At least Anneke has made up for the terrible new album with her performances on the new Devin Townsend record. "Bend It Like Bender" is her best vocal since leaving The Gathering in my opinion.

Last Sunday I've been to a solo performance of Anneke at the 'Zomer Op Het Plein' festival in Alkmaar (NL). She played about 50 minutes. The performance after her was the other (not TG) dutch singer Frank Boeijen.
Here are some of the pictures I took: Anneke @ Zomer Op Het Plein

It was two years ago that I went to a concert of her (that was a 'live in your living room' solo performace). I still haven't been to a Agua de Annique gig, but I'll do this November finally.

I agree as well. It's not that the songs are bad or something, it's just too soft for my taste.
I have heard, however, that the songs are played 'heavier' live than on the album. So maybe, if she'd had a gig near my place, which must be possible, I live quite near the place where she is from, for example, I should go to a gig of hers... (:

Appelpop! I had already in my mind to go there, and now I will definitely! And now just hope that she has a good day in about three weeks... :)
