Soo....the "third" portishead album is being released at the end of april.

Most have already heard the album though, any thoughts?

I personally think it rivals Dummy, this is definately album of the year for me so far (Massive Attack will fight for that position when they finally release their album over a year and a half late)

Just got the album yesterday... mmmmmmm, pretty strange I must say.

Way too electronic for the average PH release (OK, i know, they just have a few), but I like it. I think is one of those albums that you have to listen to several times.

But I dont think its even close to the wonderful "dummy"

So, its Massive attack finally releasing the album?? Those are, great, great news.

Cheers

Had the chance to see Portishead last weekend on Coachella, and damn, what can I say? One of the greatest cincerts Ive ever seen.

They played about 4 songs from the latest album, and sounded amazing!!

gloomy, disturbing, complex (yeah very much) and unique.

strong masterpiece.

as well, some music I wouldn't enjoy everyday... it's very plaintive (depressive?) and sometimes too electro.

anyway, it's not easy to get into it at the first listening. need more listening for sure.

I got it... It's a decent album, but it just doesn't seem to follow the flow of the previous 2 albums. I like it, but it doesn't feel like a Portishead album, at least yet.

Album of the year? Still a tad early to say anything. There's a truckload of interesting things that will get out this year... A new Opeth, possibly a new Green Carnation (follow up to Light of Day, Day of Darkness... which should be interesting, if it sees the light (pun intended)). And who knows... with all these reunion shows being sold out, there could be a MBV album, 17 years after Loveless...

The music is too depressive for me to be some album of the year.
doesn't make me feel well.

still a great release anyway.

currently my album of the year is "13 blues for thirteen moons". but this is only my taste..

i feel like it's their Souvenirs of the Gathering.
Dummy is their HTMAP,meaning their best work never to make something better than that, and the most loved by the fans.
Souvenirs aka Third is their most intelligent work, complex and experimental. and second best.

i didn't like the "portishead" album btw.

I really love this album, in fact it has been growing on me ever since the first listen (which was not that good for me). My fav tracks are We Carry On, Small & Threads :)

This album really stands out. listen to it very oftenly in the car.
I think i touched its essence and its complexity now... and that I love it more than any P stuffs. should add "Small" to my faves songs too
