Not the jazz musician of the same name, the progressive metal supergroup featuring ex- Dream Theater keyboardist Kevin Moore and Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos with contributions by Sean Malone, Mike Portnoy and Steven Wilson among others. Anybody here heard of them? If not, I'll post a few samples later but first, I'm going to post some updates on their album since information about them is pretty scarce and scattered.

"Jim Matheos posted on FW website that the release of the yet untitled third OSI album will take place in the spring of 2009. The mixing of the album will start in december this year and will be made by Phill Magnotti, who has mixed for Denis Chambers and Michael Bolton." -- http://liftingshadows.wordpress.com/200 ... m-osi-iii/

"On September 5th, 2008, Kevin Moore announced that he and Jim Matheos had been working on OSI's third studio album for a few months. According to his statement in the News section of the official Chroma Key website, Mike Portnoy has been replaced by Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison. Matheos will be playing bass. Mikael Åkerfeldt has since revealed on the official Opeth website that he co-wrote and performed vocals for a song titled "Stockholm" on the new record.

The new album, "Blood", is set to be released on April 27 in Europe and May 19 in the U.S. via InsideOut Music." -- wapedia.com

"It’s a very moody song and completely unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I wrote the lyrics and the vocal lines for the piece that I simply decided to call “Stockholm“." -- Mikael Åkerfeldt on Stockholm

That's pretty much all I could find for now, despite the fact the expected release date is a month away but If I find anything, I'll post it here.

As promised, some samples!

The New Math (What He Said)
^ Taken from their debut album

Dirt From A Holy Place
^ same album. One of my favorites by them

Free
^ Title track from their most recent album

Bigger Wave
^ same album. This one is more electronic than the others

Both their albums were great. They sound like Chroma Key diverted into metal. Well sort of but you get the picture. Still too electronic for pure metallers. Kevin Moore is a mere genius.

If any of you are still interested, I've found some more info along with the artwork. It's due out in Europe on Apr. 27th and May 19th in the US.

The info:
"In Blood, OSI have succeeded in creating a fascinating album at the crossroads between rock and progressive metal. Music that alternates between atmospherically dense and aggressively demanding elements, while effortlessly transcending barriers between different styles and genres. Following its impressive predecessors, Office Of Strategic Influence (2003) and Free (2006), Blood is the third release by Kevin Moore and Jim Matheos. OSI unites two exceptional composers who share their penchant for the unusual and are on the same artistic wavelength. “We have different musical tastes but an unspoken musical understanding" Moore enthuses."

Track listing:

1. The Escape Artist - 5:51
2. Terminal - 6:29
3. False Start - 3:05
4. We Come Undone - 4:04
5. Radiologue - 6:05
6. Be the Hero - 5:52
7. Microburst Alert - 3:49
8. Stockholm - 6:42
9. Blood - 5:24

Weird, huh? And what's with the football terminology?

Heard it already 5 times, I am sure that it is better than Free, cause Free is actually pretty mediocre, even though it has masterpieces like Go. I love all of their albums anyway.

Verdict: well worth preordering. I'd say it comes a close 2nd to their debut.

There's even a song on here that brings Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter" to mind (the synth work, to be exact)

It's about that time already, another OSI album!

Of course, being the perfectionist Kevin is samples from this aren't online yet. :(

Here is an updated link (without the ads). Since updates are few and far between, I'll be using the same article for updates. Be sure to check back from time to time.

Moved article

In the link, you can expect to find a track list, album name, cover art and a link to a sampler. From what I've heard, this sounds like a more diverse record with a bit of a tribal theme going on. It even has shows hints at their roots. Very promising. Be sure to check this out guys.
