My final review
I made it a bit deeper
Just got Antimatter's Planetary Confinement...
Bloody hell this band is HUGE!! I like their previous two albums (though I still prefer Saviours to Light Out) but this album is a MUST!
It's I think until now the album I got this year! Pure, magnificent, soft, deep, goose bumping almost in every song!
Duncan's part is for the first time the one I enjoy a bit less (but it's still great). I have to say though beautiful as usual, I feel like there not enough evolution compared to what Mick Moss has achieved. It's not bad though! The way Line of Fire is built going crescendo in intensity is fantastic! The cover of Mr. White, written by Trouble is somehow the less interesting of the tracks, maybe simply because it was not written by one of Antimatter's member. Eternity pt. 23 will surely awakes the interest of some Anathema fan not converted yet to the Antimatter. This piece, closing what I consider already as Antimatter's best achievement, is a tribute to the "less is more" motto. Take the time to listen to this track and let it invade your senses!
The songs written by Moss (the acoustic ones) are all jewels. The fact Moss decided to go for an all-acoustic recording is paying off. Each instruments sounds so (a)live... This brings back the emotion one could feel during their live performances! If you had the chance to see Antimatter live, you'll understand perfectly what I mean.
Mick has also considerably increased his vocal skill! His warm voice is somehow contrasting with the coldness of the violin that appears in the English Session songs (the tracks Moss is responsible for).
Planetary Confinement is probably the album that could bring Antimatter to a broader audience. It's also after that album Duncan Patterson decided to depart to new horizons, with his new project Ion. Mick Moss will then remain the only one in command of the Antimatter vessel. The 4th album is already on the way.
Leaving Eden should arrive next featuring Anathema's Danny Cavanagh. After such an album as Planetary Confinement, I can only ask one thing: that 2006 comes quick!
But waiting for this 4th album, you'll have enough to discover or rediscover Antimatter with Planetary Confinement! Just run for it!!
