Stream: Pink Floyd’s The Greatest Gig in the Sky

In celebration of this week’s reissues, YouTube is hosting The Greatest Gig in the Sky, a “once-in-a-lifetime streaming event” that showcases Pink Floyd’s truly epic performance at Empire Pool, now Wembley Arena, where they performed their groundbreaking 1973 effort, Dark Side of the Moon. Dating back to November 1974, this unreleased recording was captured straight from the soundboards and has since been custom-mixed and remastered by Andy Jackson. Fans who visit the special YouTube page will have the opportunity to listen to the entire concert over original Pink Floyd concert films, all restored to full quality, too. Don’t worry if you missed it. The performance repeats again and again. As a press release notes, “Each show will be different as fans across the globe comment in real time and become part of this unique experience.”

Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and Foo Fighters Perform 'In the Flesh' on 'Fallon'
If this were a competition, however, first prize for best Pink Floyd appreciation would land firmly on Jimmy Fallon's mantle.
His 'Late Night' show is currently in the middle of "Pink Floyd Week," featuring interviews with singer/bassist Roger Waters and drummer Nick Mason, as well as tributes from some of the music world's biggest bands.

Monday saw recently reunited indie rockers the Shins perform 'Breathe' with little to no deviation from the original recording. James Mercer lent a gentle croon to the rock classic, leading his band through the steady pace and lush textures of David Gilmour's lap steel guitar.

On Tuesday, things were ratcheted up to a new level as Foo Fighters, who may someday warrant their own covers week, took a side role to Roger Waters while ripping through 'In the Flesh.' Dave Grohl and his blue Gibson stood somewhat in the shadows, and the Foos frontman didn't utter as much as a back-up vocal. This allowed Waters to take center stage, with his fierce, upward wail still hitting the highs with a fist clenched defiantly in the air.
