R.I.P DEMIS ROUSSOS AND EDGAR FROESE
Demis Roussos was a musical hero of mine. The big man with the big beard and the angel-like voice has passed away. I’ve been more or less obsessed with him ever since i picked up copy if the classic ”666” album from Aphrodites child. It’s been as unlikely as a party record for me personally and for Opeth and crew while on tour. I think we might even have danced to ”The four horsement”. And many a nights I’ve been singing along to ”Rebecca” and ”Winter rains” from his early solo records. He was a fantastic passionate singer but also a great bassplayer which is confirmed especially on ”666”. As I’m writing this ”Forever and ever” comes on the radio. A great loss and the world is a lesser place now.
A few days ago, legendary krautrock/electronic/psychedelic/avantgarde visionary Edgar Froese passed away as well. I think it’s safe to say that his work with Tangerine Dream is pioneering and his solo work (although I’m still discovering it) has left me quite overwhelmed. I was familiar with the ”Aqua” album and Steven Wilson turned me on to ”Epsilon in Malaysian pale” which is a fantastic record too.
Tonight calls for a somber celebration or a mass or whatever you’d call it. A glass of Zinfandel and Roussos and Froeses music. Enjoyed on my couch in privacy. Despite the sadness and shock I feel in light of their passing I have something great to look forward to at least”
