Everytime I listen to the Gathering music...I think if another guitar could be better....Maybe...in this time, for the type of music played by the band, I don't see a good use for another guitar...So I prefer one guitar (even if it could try)

Maybe, for the kind of music The Gathering play now, one guitar is enough.

But I really liked two guitars in the first albums!

Yes, I prefer 2 guitars: Rene & Anneke :green:

... but on the other hand, it isn't easy to dance in the instrumental
parts of the songs with a guitar in a hand :-|

As long as they keep using them in interesting ways on the albums, with a few chunkier-riffed songs on the new album also hopefully, then i'll be happy with just the one.

I think that one is enough. Though Sand and Mercury sounded a bit "not that way" on the Superheat album...

The band don't need a second guitar for most of their stuff. That's not to say they shouldn't use one occasionally. I don't think duelling guitar solos would suit the band though.

i dunno... i really liked it when they had two guitars, it made them sound heavier but on the other hand like most of the people said, they dont need two guitars now... besides i love it when Anneke plays guitar, she does it very well so i prefer Anneke and Rene on guitars

like Always and AaD too...

well ... rutten and wiersma are not the most excellent guitar players nevertheless they were complementing each other very very well, even I'd say they've many amazing moments in each of the first four albums.

now, specially Souvenirs... TG's guitar is simply that ... a guitar sounding.. an accompaniment .. with no many expression... tasteless....

coz that obviously I prefer two guitars.. but considering the present style I doubt this happens... :(

I think one guitar is enough for the most part, although I really like how the band does it now with Anneke playing guitar live on some select songs. Especially on Black Light District it works great in my opinion...and Anneke seems to really enjoying herself during the extended guitar jam of that song

I wouldn't wish her to be playing 2nd guitar on all the songs however. While the guitar parts would be thicker/heavier, overall I think that would end up detracting more than helping the live show. It's nice to see Anneke dancing and getting into the music during the instrumental passages. Plus she can focus more on her voice without guitar in hand.

I definitely can't see them ever bringing in a new 2nd guitarist into the band....if they wished to do so, I'm sure they would've brought someone in soon after Jelmer's departure.

So, overall the way they do it now is the best to me.

Has anyone seen the Anneke solo acoustic versions of TG songs? Anneke is actually a good rhythm guitarist. I'd like to see/hear more of her with Rene. Rene style has evolved into a more abstract one, so I think a little more of Annekes' style blending with his would be great.

Two guitars helps fill out the sound of the band and make the sound much heavier. But since The Gathering are no longer trying to be heavy, it doesn't really matter. However, another guitar wouldn't hurt.

I also think that one guitar is enough for the kind of sound they play today, and also because they fill the spaces in the music with the keyboards and synths.
