How often do you usually go to a gig or festival? Not only The Gathering, but in general.

3-6 times. Maybe I would go more often, if I had enough money...

25-52... it's probably more like 52+, but it's unintentional because I'll already be at the pub when the band starts playing. 8)

It all depends on the number of interesting gigs in my area.

My average is twice to three times a week, more in summer, that sums up to 150 gigs a year, more or less.

If I would count the bands playing the same night separately, the sum would be something close to 300.
I go to a gig almost every week, in the summer much more frequently. So maybe I should've answered >52. :-?

25-52, preferably no festivals.

Festivals are the illness, the plague, of our times. I loathe them, they're not designed for people who want to hear music. The worst thing is often bands only play the festival because of the great 'promotional opportunity' to show themselves to the audience that doesn't know them. Fine, but wouldn't it be nice to serve the people who do know them as well? I don't like hanging around in the open, either rainy or otherwise burning, air with 20.000-40.000 people that are drunk and/or 'having a good time' with expensive drinks tired/hung-over of the previous 2 days and showing little to none interest to the bad mix that the wind sometimes blows in their direction.

An example: this year Electric Masada and King Crimson played on North Sea Jazz. Of course they were spread over 2 days (and I'm sure that if they played on the same day, they would've played at the same time on different stages). Whilst King Crimson was playing the only other really good act was playing on another stage. The next day, the Electric Masada day, nothing worthwhile was playing the whole day. That would've been well over 100 euro's for 2 hours of great music and maybe one hour of interesting other stuff...

Will this 'bigger, longer, more...' thing ever stop? Every weekend in summer seems to be filled with festivals these days. And then they start to complain it isn't sold out?!?!?!?

[/rant] ;)

Guess I'm gettin' old... I've counted all the gigs I've been to last year and it's around 7-10 gigs ... I actually clicked "3-6", but it's just my bad memory - I've been to TG three times this year, hehe ;) Anyway, it's still a small number when compared to the past... this year it's only TG, Mogwai, Indukti, The Hub, Globetrotters and not much more...

A lot of gigs every year, I have no idea how many, I have also been to the Roskildefestival five times, but not since 2000. Getting too old perhaps

I've chosen 1-2. Not many bands happen to play in Szczecin... usually I visit only Moonlight concert and Dark Stars festival ;)

They aren't. But maybe multistaging is. Luckily, most Italian festivals are on a single stage, and one of my favourite ones (La Route Du Rock in St.Malo, France) has three different locations but there are never two acts at the same time.

On 2003 I went to totally 13 gigs, but usually it's a bit less, because of the bands' rate that come to play and also the prices of the tickets. I voted for 7 - 12.
