Well, I figured since it's the 15 year anniversary, I'd like to know what everyone's opinion on this is. :D

It'd interesting, but we won't see it, I think. Anneke Rules, but Always and Almost a dance are such a great works.

No, I just figured since he recently became a dad that he probably wouldn't have time to come back to the band and rehearse even for one show. And c'mon...name calling? That's not cool.

And there are other ex-members as well that I didn't mention: Niels, Marike groot, Martine van loon. I just mentioned Bart and Jelmer because they had a fairly long run in the Gathering lineup. Bart was in "an imaginary symphony", "Moonlight Archer", and "Always". Jelmer was there until "Nighttime birds". It would be the "classic" lineup I guess. It would be awesome if Hugo would be there but most likely he would be on a 20th anniversary ya know?

Think that would be great to see the previous band members, especially for us that hadn't the chance to see them in the past.
SLOWLY.... would like to hear it with a brutal vocalist again

I agree! I love what the Gathering are doing now, but it would be nice to hear those death metal vocals again. I don't think Bart get's enough credit on this board.

I think it wouln'td work out just because Bart hasnt played in the band for 13 years now... and his last known band [Wish] was 1000 of miles away from TG's music!

May be, I would like to see a reunion of the band with Jelmer and Hugo, but I'm not really interested on seen Bart back in the band, i don't think it would fit at all with the music they are doing these days. And I actually don't really enjoy that period of the band anyways.

Cheers

I can see why so many people don't like the period with Bart Smits on vocals but if you listen closely, the elements of the Gathering you hear now are still present. I just think it would be nice if Anneke and Bart did, let's say, Stonegarden, together. Male and female vocals are both present and it is such a wonderful song. And think, if Jelmer and Hugo were on stage too, there would be 3 guitars and 2 bass players. That would be epic and incredibly loud! I don't think gathering fans should be ashamed or turn their back on this period in the band. I don't think a band should do that either (example: paradise lost). It's a part of who you are regardless of if you grow out of it. Not everyone needs to JUST listen to female fronted metal bands or radiohead type music. There was an interview I read a while ago with Rene I believe and they asked him this: Let's say you were back in the band when it started and you heard the music the Gathering were making now, what would you think? I believe he stated something along the lines of great, that's where I knew the music's direction would go (if someone has a direct link or remembers correctly please post because my memory is bad at the moment :( ) Maybe some of the older gathering fans have something to say about this? Perhaps share some wisdom or thoughts?

I don't miss him because Anneke's doing the second guitar well too...She looks great with that instrument although she doesn't need to play a lot :green:

You have a great point Zac. Many bands today turn their back on their original music because they've grow quite a bit musically since then, but it IS a part of that band forever and I tend to love to listen to older stuff from a band because it's the sound they orignally grew from and usually has many elements of what you hear today. For example, Nightwish never does music from Angels Fall First but that's one of my favorite albums!

i think it'd be great.
It's not get back to the past, just 1 or 2 shows, and not all the show, maybe 1 or 2 songs for bart and some with Jelmer and Hugo but the other with the current line-up
Dream theater did the same with the aniversary of their first album, their original singer joined them for one or 2 songs and i think derek did the same on another ones.
